What would you do in this situation?

Hey guys,

When you're trying to put your name on the list for a new watch, if your AD asked you to show them the watch you bought from their store to prove that you are not a reseller, would you do it? Or would it make you feel bad?

I never sold my watch, but was a bit frustrated when they asked..

Tell them “sure, on the condition you can show mutual trust by bringing me the ref I want within 6 months. Show me my order, I’ll show you my old watch.”

I am always wearing a watch I bought from them. But if they asked, given the circumstances, I would show them.

I wear them into the AD anyway, but if they ever inquired, I would be glad to demonstrate I’m genuinely a collector and have them still.

I'd show them. Not a big deal at all.

I wear them all the time, so they would never have to ask. Ever.

If I offer to give people my hard-earned money and they ask me to prove my worthiness, I walk.

Anytime I walk into my AD I’m wearing one of the watches I bought there, that’s one of the reasons they will sell me more if I ask.

OP - if you bought from them before don’t ask for another opportunity without wearing what you got earlier. If they see it on you they won’t ask.

What!? I would: show them the watch. But I’d be wearing it so they knew I still had it.

This happened to you, right?

By the number of new Rolexes on the grey market, I’d say ADs don’t care if you’re a flipper.

Seems abit annoying, but apparently AD's are trying to clamp down on flippers, so I suppose this is one way of trying to do so

People on here complain about flippers all the time. But then they complain when ADs take even rudimentary and unobtrusive measures to weed out flippers.

Can’t have it both ways.

Do they ask the same to the greys whom they sell to through the back door?

Pretty hard to show them the watch you bought when you bought six of them ... how do you show them all six or eight or whatever the number is?

No issue with this at all. All in favour of the AD doing this.
If you flipped your last one, you shouldn’t get the next one.

Seems a reasonable request to me.

Why wouldn't you?

At least they are trying to stop flippers.

I always wear one of the watches that I purchased from them. Quick story, 1 day I was wearing my Pepsi and so wasn’t a different SA at my AD and he asked if he could take a photo of his and mine together and he posted it on there IG page with a little story and even referred to me as 1 of their great customers. Not sure about that but it was pretty cool, that is all, hahaha

Many ADs have started to do this.

Since you still have it, just show it. In the end of the day, you want the next watch so why not just play along?

A pic of the watch on-wrist, with today's newspaper, and a note (made from letters cut from a magazine) stating: "You have 24 hours to sell me my desired reference at full MSRP or this watch will be resold" should be sufficient.

Personally for me, this would piss me off. I'd tell them to take a hike and try with another AD.

We live in interesting times and ADs are being careful about flippers (thankfully). Since you still have it, sure, wear it there and show them

Am curious about those who have not worked retail sales and are also not in favor of this. Have worked in retail for many years and through various 'fads' of high product demand.... Lemme tell you, every time one thinks we've seen it all within customers / retail sales, the world seems to build a 'better' customer idiot. So yes, i can understand the AD's point and personally agree since Rolex (rightly) does not desire product flippers.
