What would you do if...

What would you do if you send the watch in for service and ask not to polish the case but do a full polish on the bracelet, but the RSC polishes the entire watch.

not really sure what you can do after the fact. if it's a relatively current, modern reference then i probably wouldn't care too much (since i tend to like my watches clean and new looking anyway).

if it was something vintage or a collectors piece i was concerned about, i probably would have gotten a few more opinions and/or advice prior to sending off.

hope all works out for you...

I’d never send anything vintage to Rolex. Far too many stories of things like this happening. Modern, no big deal.

That may have gotten too complicated. Either polish or not polish is easier to understand. Hard to say how many people are involved in the process, handling and work. Partial polish can get loss in the equation much too easily.

Another one of those RSC polished my watch threads. It's not like they can unpolish it. I suspect you can't choose one or the other.

Who did you tell this to? Perhaps you can whine to whoever and get a discount on your next service.

It’s my understanding RSC doesn’t do partial polishes like that. It’s either a yes or a no to polish and then they polish as they deem fit.

Of course, if this is true, they should have explained that to you when you requested a partial/specific polish.

Sorry to hear.

Nothing. Rolex polishing is all or nothing, not a la carte.

TBH I'd be pretty irritated.

Poor customer service (with regards to literally anything in life, and not just watches) is a real bug-bear of mine, and in this example Rolex either ignored the customer and also chose not to inform them upfront that polishing is an "all or nothing" thing, or they were simply incompetent. Either reason shows poor customer service, and not what you're entitled to expect.

…the most you can ask for is the price of the polishing to be deducted from the bill.

Since you live in Harrisburg next time consider Zimmermans in York PA. Never a disappointment.

Not much you can do but enjoy your new looking watch.
A fresh bracelet on a case with swirls and scratches would not have looked good anyway

I'm not a mind reader. I would guess that your instructions stopped at "full polish" and "on the bracelet" didn't get included.

Your instructions might seem unambiguous to you but it's not you who is reading them and doing the work. In a situation like this I would discuss it and double check. Get it in writing if possible. I always communicate with my RSC in writing, get confirmation in writing and check verbally when I hand a watch over.

Not that this now makes any difference for the watch in question. Maybe next time. Congratulations on your new watch. Enjoy.

That’s why I only use Rolliworks for all my Rolex’s vintage or otherwise.

I think RSC does not give you the option of polish this but not that. It's either all or nothing.

I know VC has different polishing tiers and can do local refinishing (and with different intensity, i.e. just "brighten" it or make it like new) and I guess the same is true for other high end brands, but clearly not Rolex. For local jobs on Rolex bracelets, you are much better off taking it to third party jewelers (Rolliworks, Michael Young).

Have you seen "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas?

That's what I would do.

This did happen to someone. Its in a thread somewhere.

Ended up being an amusing read as the owner got really righteous and demanding.

Sending to Rolex Service does not provide an option. I had a similar request not to polish, and I was told that polish is part of the service and will be done on every watch.

When is comes to polishing, been told that one should feel free to polish any modern Rolex watch to keep its look, and that you really should only hold off with true vintage pieces?

I am not sure/clear on this so thought would ask.
