1955 Rolex most probably never knew existed

Saw this on last nights antiques roadshow.

It tickles me how so many say Rolex jumped the shark with the new releases this year but this was a watch they produced 68 yrs ago.

Worth scrap gold value. 15,000 USD would be very optimistic for an obscure cocktail watch like this. You could get a very nice gold 1803 Day-Date for that price.

Sometimes those Antiques Roadshow guys are Jacks of all trades and masters of nothing.

if its on TV with these pushy sellers its junk and fake garbage. Its just a custom ugly made case by some fat guy that put a small lady precision to that case.
poor work though i could cut gold better than that with a school scisor.

for people with low knowledge and prone to TV BS'ing.

I would say the gem setting and bracelet craftmanship look very good.

Cocktail watch like Zap said. No big value other than scrap. Craftsmanship is in the eyes of the beholder. Not for me.

If that value is legit, it must be due to collectibility as jewelry. I didn't watch the episode, perhaps the designer of the watch is well-known and collectible?

the workmanship on this watch is very poor... like -1 on a 1-10 scale.

As I recall the appraisal, the value was almost all in the bracelet’s gold weight. No doubt they weighed it. Apparently those are solid 18K gold links.

It would have to weigh 300 g to be worth that as scrap gold.
I cannot imagine it way more than 125? Maybe 150 grams
That would be heavier than a day date from the same period.
