Adding AR Coating on Explorer 214270
hi, I’m looking to add AR coding to the crystal on my 214270 explore. Does anybody have an experience doing this with any newer models that don’t have a AR coating?
If so, would love to hear your experiences and where you might have gotten it done. I’m in Southern California. I would love a resource if you have it - thank you. my apologies if this is in the wrong thread. |

I think the later model Mark II’s have AR. Might be easiest to just replace it with a service crystal.

1) Take the factory glass out
2) measure and buy same thickness and width sapphire glass with your decried coating. 3) push in new glass. 4) get it pressure tested to make sure it is still waterproof. Extra points: 5) save the original glass in the Rolex box. For the future. |

My 214270 was bought two months before it was discontinued. It doesn’t have AR coating. Personally I wouldn’t add anything to the outside of the crysyal. As a Seamaster owner as well, after a few years, it becomes a nightmare with hairline scratches.

Has Rolex ever sold a 39mm watch with an AR-coated crystal? If not, then I suspect that Rolex can't replace the original crystal on the 214270 with an AR-coated one - even if they were prepared to do so.
