Tudor GMT In for repairs for the 4th time...

So, not to be a drama queen or anything but this watch is starting to piss me off. I love the watch though. I got this watch in June of 2018 so it's one of the first runs. Had the sticking date issue twice, took it to Rolex BH and apparently they put a new movement in after the first date sticking issue. The 3rd time it was in (when the new movement was put in) was due to it running way too slow, like a minute a day. This was the end of 2020, so the last time the watch was in was 2.5 years ago.

I recently got a watch winder and had the watch on it since my sub is my main everyday watch. I noticed erratic behavior - the 24 hour hand would always keep the correct local time but the local hour hand would be off by hours. The other odd part is that the date was always correct and since the date is determined by the local hand, it made the issue even weirder. My theory is that the local hour hand stops turning with the stem it is attached to, otherwise how could the date still be correct?

I went to NYC last month and that is the watch I wore, despite the issue. The watch worked perfectly until day 4, when I woke up it was 3 hours off (slow). I decided to take it back to Rolex BHSC yesterday again for the 4th time in less than 5 years. The lady originally helping me took it in back, came back out about 5 mins later and said that I would need to pay $425 for a service to fix the issue. I really didn't like that answer but I also want the watch fixed. As I stood there I got more annoyed at the situation and she asked me if I wanted to speak to the manager to which I said yes please.

I explained the history of the watch to the manager and that in less than 5 years this is the 4th time there is something wrong with it. I explained to her how the local hour hand will randomly stop moving and lose hours per day all the while the 24 hour hand works fine. She was glad I explained the theory to her so she has more info to go on. She then took the watch back again and I waited another 5 minutes. She came out with a different resolution. She asked me if it would be okay to keep the watch on a winder and observe it. I said absolutely, keep it for a month I don't care. I'm not in a rush to get it back, I just want it fixed. She then said that they would service the watch at no charge no matter what they discover in the course of observing the watch. I was pleased with that answer. ;)

Anyone else ever have this issue with the Tudor GMT? Maybe I just got a lemon... Anyway, I will update this thread when I have more information.

Wow, Nikh, sorry to hear this--it really does sound like a pain. Hopefully now, though, they can get you some answers.

My GMT (also a 2018 model) has been back to London RSC twice.

First time they fitted a new movement, second time they also fitted a new movement but admitted the first movement they had fitted didn't have the "fix" and ensured me that this time round it wouldn't happen again.

They actually offered me a new GMT in place of fixing this one, I joked with them and said I'd accept a Panda in replacement but said I'd rather have my GMT back as I've made some memories with it and made some marks on it.

Once was enough for me. As much as I liked Tudor BB GMT I sold it after one date issue. Only Rolex GMTs for me now.

Fake news. Tudor is perfect. Never been any GMT date wheel problems. Rolex is perfect. Never been any 32xx movement problems. Btw, the earth is flat. 😏

Why would you keep a watch that’s had that many problems? Lots of people dumped their Tudor GMTs over that last few years. Remember, the Tudor service model is to hot swap the movements, so you’re now on your fourth (4th, vierte, cuarta) bum movement. I guess some people are gluttons for punishment.

This watch is well known in the watch circles as being a lemon.

The movement in them have some serious flaws but because Rolex is so secretive there is no definitive answer. I also know a handful of ppl in various watch clubs I am part of having had to send their watches 3 or 4 times back to RSC. Its a complete joke.

They have all sold them off now. Its not worth the headaches to them anymore.

I really hope the 2022/23 models are all fixed and especially on the new GMT as I think that uses the exact same movement.

If I was you I'd be selling it when I got it back. Its just taken away the enjoyment of owning the piece.

4th service in 5 years. Wow, I can’t imagine… Sorry for this hassle.

I’m not a watch maker, but I don’t understand the approach of observing the watch on a winder for a month. What’s the point? The owner has described the issue. It’s a mechanical item. Fix it.

They first tried to make the customer pay for it and only in the second instance did they agree to a free repair, even though it was still within the warranty period and the watch had already caused problems three times before. By now I would have had enough of this watch and probably also of this shop.

Anyone seen this video yet? Date wheel issue on the brand new opaline GMT. It's insane that this is still happening. I love Tudor and have owned several, but this is unacceptable.

It's a lemon. Sell and move on. Highly recommend any Rolex GMT, there's a good reason why they command a premium even over the Sub. Best watch on the planet IMO (sorry Daytona fanbois)

Ah yes, a good ol' Tudor bashing thread. Don't seem to detect any atrophy to the brand hating muscles of the usual suspects.

I'll just leave this here.

Unfortunately, it’s a real issue. Just like the 32xx is a real issue. I don’t understand the emotional component that some people exhibit when the topic comes up.

I had an out of warranty date issue with my Tudor GMT which RSC St James' fixed no charge. Its been fine since.

My Black Bay Blue ETA when to the RSC three times for a spinning rotor while hand winding before they finally fixed it. Now sold.

Sorry this is happening. My experience is that the now four that I have owned have been almost perfect. I got one of the first ones released and it worked flawless. Bought a Rolex WG GMT and thought the watches were redundant so I moved the Tudor out. A short time later I found them not to be and brought a new replacement Tudor in. This one had the issue and my AD swapped it out for another. That one has worked perfectly. I just picked up the new Opaline GMT and and I look forward to having it in the collection. With all of that said I look forward to hearing what the RSC has to say and the solution. Please keep us posted.

I get the feeling that Rolex is now making watches with an expiration date.

I'm an owner and not at all ashamed to say mine has had the dreaded date issue and was serviced, but...has been running flawlessly since.

As far as that being an indictment on the brand....no, I don't see it that way. If I was keeping score, (and I don't) I'd be fairly confident I've sent in more Rolexes than Tudors for warranty work. I can say, however, I wouldn't put up with it 4 times.

I hope your situation is resolved to your satisfaction soon.

Sorry this has happened to you , my personal experience has been very different as my GMT hasn’t missed a beat , its a great watch for the price , albeit if I was suffering like yourself I may feel somewhat different. Wishing you better luck

Have there been any recommendations to diminish the odds of the flaw occurring or is it random? Has anyone ever reported a user action resulting in the date flaw being activated? As a GMT one should be able to set date forward backward all times of day but it would be great if there was a way to minimize the chances.

For example I’m aware of the flaw with the valjoux 7750 chrono where it’s not recommended to use quickset 9pm to 3am. My big block now turns over at 11pm because I was unaware and created a date wheel issue.

My Tudor GMT had the date issue after 3 years of flawless ownership, but before I had a chance to send it in it spontaneously fixed itself after a couple weeks and has been fine for the past year.

Seems fine now, running at +1 spd.
