is the Yacht-Master 42 in titanium too expensive?
…do you think the Yacht-Master 42 in titanium is too expensive? In the UK it is £11,800.

…I should have added some context to the question. For only £1,350 more you can get the Sky-Dweller.
I know they are completely different watches…so one with a lightweight case/bracelet or a reference with a complication? |

I guess I look at it through the lens of what Rolex’s first Ti watch cost. Granted that piece can go to the deepest point in the ocean and still function, but $25k USD is a lot of money for a non-PM piece. By comparison the YM42 in titanium is a relative bargain!
That or I’m just working on how to convince my better half that I need one someday LOL |

Absolutely yes. It will have the normal hype cycle but will be readily available at MSRP by year's end. It will be a "relationship builder" thereafter. Subs, GMTs and Daytonas will continue to be popular.

If it was smaller I would buy it over any of the stainless models. I don’t think it’s expensive at all.

I think it’s fairly priced. Not under or over. Grade 5 titanium is not the easiest material to finish. There’s also the novelty factor (Rolex’s first titanium mainstream production watch), in house movement. Compare the YM42 Ti to the IWC Ingenieur Titanium which is using an ETA movement
However, I don’t think the YM42 Ti is a particularly impressive release. The prototype Watch with NATO strap looks far better. The titanium bracelet looks bulky, and titanium itself lacks the shine of SS and PM. On pictures it looks really drab and boring. Would have been better if they had released it on OF. |

Value has always been a problem with the YM at retail, compared the Sub, Daytona and GMT. This Ti is no different.
The SS YM has always cost several thousands more than a Sub. You could at least argue the better or more refined case finish and the use of precious metal. Now with the Ti it's all marketing. |

In comparison to the PM models with ceramic bezels it's a bargain. Full sized, light weight, ceramic bezel, and it comes with a metal bracelet!!! I'm waiting for mine. Has anyone seen one available on the secondary market or delivered yet?

Interesting opinions but anyone spoken to an AD about this model?
Two I’ve spoken to have been told that Rolex Ti production is going to be extremely limited. The independent AD already know their allocation: one Ti piece a year. That includes the DSC. Who knows, but if this is how it works out then this is going to be priced like full gold on the secondary market. |

That’s a good question. I love what they’ve done with it, but I’m having a tough time justifying it, and honestly I’m a bit surprised by the ask …
That said, all of these watches are just bonkers in price when you think about it |

At roughly equivalent pricing, it’s hard for me to imagine choosing a titanium Yacht-Master over a TT LB Sub or a CHNR.
But I’ve stopped thinking a long time ago that there’s any rationality in luxury watch pricing. |

Not that I will ever see one at MSRP but I would be a buyer. The interesting thing will be what the watch does at Grey pricing and where it settles in a year or two.

Too expensive compared to another ROLEX? If so, the Sky Dweller is not a comparison. Nor is the Submariner, or DeepSea Sea-Dweller. The comparison is the premium over the regular stainless Yatchmaster. The premium for a Titanium DeepSea over the regular Deep Sea is substantial compared to the premium for the YM42 vs. YM stainless., even though the DeepSea goes from a 44mm to a 50mm.
No matter, the market will tell us in the future if the 42YM is too expensive. |

It's a Rolex. So yes, but I'm sure they won't have any issue selling them.

I just got a bill for almost 9k for a simple three hand Rolex, everything is too expensive and when everything is too expensive, nothing is. It’s just what the prices are these days.

You don't like what Rolex sets their prices at, call them and see what they say.
They sell all the make, they will sell all these as plenty of people favor Ti watches and lots of people like a watch bigger than 40 mm these days. I will likely buy one at some point.

Lots of manufacturers can produce ti watches with much finer finishing than this YM42 for one half or one third of the price. Tudor does it too for way less. So the whole Ti is harder to work with is nonsense as far as pricing goes. It should be £9k, not £11,800.

Why would Ti be cheaper? I can't think of any watch in Ti where its steel counterpart costs more.

Price is irrelevant and highly subjective to your own value system. Luxury goods at this level will set their own price point and this will be higher than msrp. I applaud anyone who has a passion for a particular item and will pay up for it.

I can't figure out why 34 people bothered to vote 'don't care'
If you really don't care about the watch then why waste your time reading the thread and voting?? |

It’s too cheap. Rolex should 2x all their prices asap.

I don't think it is. It's only a bit more than a Sub - the price you pay for a non-stainless Rolex.
