Returning to PAM: Are AD discounts a thing?

After a long break I have decided to add a Pam back into the collection. I’m leaning toward a 42mm submersible and was wondering if one is likely to score a discount from AD these days? I’m in the NYC market. It seems Pam has gone more of the boutique path since I last bought one in 2007. Not sure exactly what I can expect or should ask for given the changes in the watch market since I last bought one. I guess second hand is an option if price break justifies it. Any guidance would be appreciated! Thx

Welcome to TRF. My experience is it never hurts to ask. In the past I have been able to receive moderate discounts from AD's. I have never received a discount from a Boutique but they will offer a strap/buckle. The better market is the Trusted Sellers and the 42mm are somewhat slow movers from my little experience watching them. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Welcome to the forum and good luck on the new PAM.

As William said, boutiques are unlikely to discount. AD’s may offer you one. Gray market is most likely your best bet (price wise).

I've gotten reasonable discount at AD in US and a Panerai Boutique in Europe (circa 2018). Speaking with the staff at the Boutique in Vegas recently it sounds like there has been a directive from the top of the organization to eliminate discounts at Boutiques as of April 2023. It sounds like more Boutique exclusive pieces are being planned. Similar to other brands they are looking at wanting people to build brand equity with prior purchases to get access to the exclusives. Will be intesting to see if post-pandemic the brand is strong enough to pull this off.

Really? They're all over the country... I'm sure the panerai website even has an active list.

Never buy a Panerai without a big discount. They want to play the Omega "no boutique discount" game, but like Omega, they fail badly because the watches depreciate like crazy.

They now say no to discounts at the boutiques, but at ADs may be different.
I personally buy Panerai second hand due to the massive depreciation.
