Mexico City AD

Hi all - I got a Rolex sourced from an AD in Mexico City (I think). When I opened the box it appears real but the pillow says “Made in Thailand” (in Spanish) on the side. Can any of you who have purchased at a Mexican AD confirm that yours says this too? Have never seen it before on US purchases. Thank you!

The only relatively recent Rolex-related accessory or affiliated item I've seen that shows a different country of origin other than Switzerland is their cologne/perfume that's from France.
Something is fishy here. Perhaps the watch is real, but the dealer sourced (maybe inadvertently) a fake box, which there is unfortunately a large market for.

I have purchased several watches from Mexican ADs. I just took a look at the pillow of one of them and didn't have any writings.

However, the outer box typically has a label with some Spanish information, which is required by the government for any imports.

Also, in most of my previous purchases, the manual came in English but in the last one, it's in Spanish. Warranty booklet in English with a Spanish insert.

Is the place an authorized dealer per rolex.com?

If the pillow is fake the watch is most likely fake too!

It may be something the AD includes, definitely not from Rolex themselves.

Need more info and pics though.

Not clear if you bought this directly from an AD and they shipped it to you(unlikely) or you bought it from a secondary dealer and the watch was originally purchased in Mexico (my money is on this).

Since you said “sourced,” who knows. I’ve purchased directly from an AD who has multiple locations in Mexico (UJ) and they’re all legit.

Rather than rely on the pillow, search for YouTube authenticity check videos for your model. Then go through the inspection process. I don’t think the pillow is a valid way to determine anything.

Agree and I have done this but cannot find another example of this pillow so thought I would check among our international membership. I have never gotten a watch from Mexico before so their particulars are new to me. All of my other watches have come from US ADs but this was a unique situation.

To rephrase my response, if the watch is authentic, the pillow is irrelevant.

IMHO, of course.

No need to be suspicious of my statements. The watch clearly came from an AD in Mexico so I assumed it was Mexico City. And I don’t carry watch boxes around with me so no I don’t have a picture of it at the moment. There’s really not much to see. It’s just a normal pillow that looks, feels and smells normal but it has Hecho en Tailandia written on the side. That’s it.

I’m pretty sure it’s legit based on everything else in the package and other research I have found that indicates these boxes are at least partially made in Thailand. The import sticker on the bottom indicates the watch was made in Switzerland and the box was made in Thailand. Just was very surprised to see this stamping on the side of the pillow.

But a DD36 I used to have many years ago came from a French AD and it had unique import stamping on it that was pretty cool such as a coronet with some numbering on the center of the case back.
