Surprise Discontinued Incoming

I've always been an admirer of the Milgauss, although it wasn't among my "Top 3" desired models. Like some, I felt a tinge of regret when it was announced that it had been discontinued. Wondering if there might be a few still in the distribution pipeline, last Tuesday, I stopped by my regular AD to ask about its availability, and expressing my interest in the black dial model.

His reply "I haven't seen one come in for the past year." We continued chatting on other topics, when suddenly, he mentioned, "Hey, isn't your birthday coming up?" I confirmed that my birthday was approaching. My AD presented me with a thoughtful gift—a Rolex handkerchief.

Then on Friday, I received an unexpected call from said AD, suggesting that I drop by the following day if I had the time. Japanese ADs are always cryptic like that. Of course i'm going to stop by. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that a Milgauss had actually arrived the day after I had inquired about it. My AD considered it a peculiar coincidence, combining the black dial model, the timing of my inquiry, and the proximity to my birthday, suggesting it must be fate. Thus, they allocated the timepiece to me, and I feel incredibly fortunate and lucky.

I wonder if anyone else has seen the Milgauss at ADs after the DL announcement?

Congrats!

I added it to my list before the discontinuing announcement and reminded them I was still interested post discontinuation and havent heard anything since March other then I'll check to see if I can get it still.

There has to be inventory floating around still, I've seen three other metorite posts in the last week which is also on my list.

Congrats!
It’s interesting to see you say the Japanese are cryptic. My AP SA emails me and tells me that X watch is available and it’s mine if I want it. Now granted I have to fly from Okinawa to
Tokyo to get it so maybe it would be different if I could just drive on over.

Regardless, enjoy the new toy in good health!

Congratulations. My husband got a WG blue dial Daytona 2 weeks ago and those have been discontinued. Just must be a few discontinued watches in the system.

Congrats on the Milgauss! It’s a great watch and I’m glad that you were able to pick it up after being discontinued. I just picked up a panda Daytona yesterday, and my AD told me they will continue to see these references trickle in until the new releases start shipping in the late summer/early fall.

Congratulations on getting a late-model black GV, with the finest typography on any of the GVs (Z-blues with this typography are much more common, in my experience)!

Thank you for nice comment. I'm curious about your statement on the typography. I'm a little unclear on what you are comparing to. Could you please enlighten me? Thanks.

I just got one last week from my A.D.same black dial G.V. There might be a few Rolex might have in stock and they are trickling down to few dealers.

I was going to say...

Without question it was in the safe. I'm very dubious a discontinued model arrived the day after expressing interest/ birthday. More than likely, just needed approval from someone who perhaps wasn't there.

But who knows, anything is possible! Regardless, it doesn't take away from special timing of owning this watch. Congrats OP, it's beautiful!

Likely. But I do believe that they’re still shipping to dealers. First, as of official discontinuation many had probably already shipped to country level distributors yet weren’t yet in the safes of dealers. And, second, there’s no actual rule saying Rolex can’t produce them anymore; it’s not like there was an official discontinuation announcement. The old 115200 survived over a year after leaving the online catalogue.
