Pepsi vs Sprite: Which watch will be more valuable after 10 years?

Yes, I do know that it’s a grave sin to think of watches as investments. One should choose them basis how they speak to you and which one you actually like. I’m at a stage where I actually like both of them, the green-black of the Sprite has a unique lustre under the light and the red-blue of the Pepsi is iconic.

Given I fundamentally like both watches, and yes even the the inverse orientation of the Sprite, value then becomes the second question. I’m getting the opportunity to get the sprite in oyster and Pepsi on jubilee at roughly the same price and am thus considering future value. Would love input from this group. Thanks!

My hypotheses:

1). The Pepsi will retain value and will increase only slightly even if discontinued since the next reference would essentially be the same but with a few refinements (like the new Daytonas)

2). The Sprite seems very hard to predict. If they release a Right handed version, then perhaps value plummets to being below the Pepsi but still above the batgirl. If they don’t, then it appears production is more limited than even the Pepsi and a discontinuation could see a larger spike than the Pepsi since I don’t see Rolex releasing a continuing reference like they would for a Pepsi (given it’s more core for the collection)

Would love thoughts that contradict my hypothesis.

I would think the Sprite if they discontinue it before the pepsi given it’s crown placement.. Pepsi seems like a really popular model for them.. but who knows really

Sprite. Quirky enough to be in future demand.

Remember how the Kermit 16610LV increased after it was discontinued....

Wonder if the nicknames play a role in popularity? Pepsi should win over Sprite anyday.

Why isn't your secondary question which would you wear more often?

VTNR is the obvious choice from a pure financial perspective. Personally, I don't like green on watches and wouldn't take one even if it was free.

Thanks. The implicitly addresses this when I said I liked both watches…ergo, I would wear both with equal gratitude.

Sprite because I think it's a lot more likely to get discontinued. People keep saying the Pepsi will get discontinued, but I don't see it. Rolex only went without one for what, 7 years since its introduction, and that was due to them trying to get the colors right on ceramic.

No matter people's feelings about the colors, they did it, and now it's here to stay imo.

Surely when the hype calms down, the Sprite will have a limited market of mainly left handed people? It’s not ‘quirky’, just wrong on the left wrist. Just because something is rare, does not mean it will have greater future value if it’s rare because there is limited demand.

Both are amazing watches. Can’t lose between them.

No idea on future value. The only thing I know is when it comes to market predictions the TRF consensus is usually wrong.

That's a good question / debate. I would say Sprite as I don't think it will be around too long. Personally I much prefer the Pepsi, but often rare = valuable.

I don't think the sprite is as desireable as the Pepsi, therefore the demand would not be there to drive up the price(?).

View watches how you want, investment, items to pass onto your kids, oneupmanship - your choice ..
But my opinion is the VTNR ( Sprite ? ) , simply because Pepsi will be in the Rolex collection forever, just had slight modifications to it, I feel it's THE most iconic Rolex out there ..
If you can own either then do, both are lovely watches ...

IF Rolex makes a RH Sprite (that could easily happen) then the tables would be changed.
Either way the difference between Sprite and Pepsi won’t be significant enough to matter in 20 years.

Future pricing will likely be based on how long they produce the VTNR… and also if they decide to produce a ‘regular’ version - which i have my doubts.

The BLRO is a historic watch and I personally think it’s unlikely to be discontinued anytime soon - and even if it was, it would likely reappear in the Rolex catalog again at some point in the future.

The VTNR is more of a novelty, if the destro production was limited to a 2 or 3 year run it would likely become highly collectible based upon rarity alone… and unlike the storied ‘pepsi’, there would be little chance of it being added back to the lineup further down the road.

Either way, my advice would be buy the watch you would prefer to wear.

I've heard from multiple ADs that they expect the left hander to be discontinued with a short run.

However, those are just their own predictions.

I assume the Sprite will have a shorter life span therefore it will be more expensive and a better investment long term....

But that's just me.... I wouldn't buy either for an investment.

closely watching this thread - got the opportunity to choose between both, and i chose the Sprite. partly due to the current market value difference, and partly due to the Pepsi being albeit louder.

both are great nonetheless!

It's not a big sin, it's just that to think which of the two will take 3K over 15 years, and make it a main criterion, is proof that it's too much for you...because it's irrelevant to most.
It's bits of steel, a passion, pleasure, there's not much to do, the field of investment is something else entirely.
You should have started there to afford it today.
But it is never too late. Peace
