trade Daytona OF for another Daytona OF

Hi guys,

I have a YG OF Daytona (black dial), acquired from AD august 2022. We were at our AD the other day (for my wife) and i saw a pre owned YG OF Daytona with the gold dial and black sub dials; this watch is from 2017.

I expressed my interest in a trade and it seems i can do an even trade.

I know mine would be worth a bit more (because of the age of the watch), but i really like the YG dial more. It gives more contrast to the watch; mine is all black (dial and subdials).

Would this be a reasonable trade?

If the condition of the 2017 piece is good and you like it more, sure. You will be giving up warranty coverage if that matters to you.

Why not simply enquire of a Rolex Service Centre if they will do a dial swap for you?

Exactly this! The one pre owned at your AD is most likely repolished and repolished lugs on polished lugs look bad almost always. I wouldn’t do the trade.

Can we see exactly which model? "newman" dial? If so and the preowned watch is unpolished in good shape I'd do it. It's my favorite OF dial. Also is your AD offering some type of extended warranty on the watch?

As others have said … you’re beyond the 5 years, so see if the RSC will do a dial swap for you, to the dial you like best … I’m not sure of the cost, but there will be a fee for the new dial, plus, I assume, a service.

A small price to pay, to me, to keep your watch, bought new from an AD, that you know the history of, versus a preowned watch, that you know nothing about.

I’m with you … I prefer the Gold Dial vs. any of the Black Dial offerings.

His watch is a year old, so not beyond the 5 year mark, but I don't know it that makes a difference.

I don't necessarily agree with the dial swap option anyhow. I'm pretty sure it will require a full service which is $1500 alone. Plus the cost of the dial and any work they consider to be additional. Plus it will take 6-7 weeks.

It will cost more than doing the straight swap, even if you get the new one serviced since it's from 2017. To me it just comes down to the condition of the older Daytona. If the condition is excellent, unpolished (or at least expertly polished) I'd say get the watch you truly want.

My mistake … I was thinking of the 2017 watch.

Okay OP … enjoy your beautiful Black Dial Daytona for 4 more years … then ask the RSC to swap in the dial you want.

If anyone has done this, I am curious of the total cost to do so.

I’m going to go against the opinion here and say this - DO NOT TRADE!
I feel that the OF Daytona that you currently have is a really nice watch as well. Provenance of a watch really matters, and it’s better if the watch is brand new to you than buying a watch which you do not know the history. After all, it’s just a different dial. The feeling of being the first owner from new is a priceless experience imo.

Yours is 2022, and first hand from the AD. The other is 2017, which the manufacturer's warranty have expired.

I won't trade.

To me, both are YG daytona, so the wearing experience won't differ too much.

Assuming you kept yours in good shape I absolutely would not do this trade. No way would I trade-in my own pristine 2022 piece I bought first hand from AD for a 2017 piece that was likely polished and changed hands multiple times with older style warranty card unless I'm trading up to a significantly rarer dial option.

I would do this trade as the dial you are looking at is the most sought after in the Daytona oysterflex lineup behind the meteorite dials. You would be be coming out ahead on this deal as long as the (yml- pickachu- golden panda) is in good condition. They carry a very high premium over the black dial. Thank me later. Don’t worry about the warranty as you will never use it before the 5 years expires.

Hi guys, thank you for your opinions.

I'm not sure about the trade at the moment. At the AD the watch seemed to be in good condition, but as i look at the watch offered on the website it seems not to be. I will add a link to the watch hereafter.

https://www.gassan.com/p/pre-owned-w...6518ln-1500929

I think i will wait for the 5 years of mine to expire and then maybe do a dial switch, either wait for another pre owned example which is in better condition.

Looks like it has been repolished. I wouldn’t trade a 2022 unpolished for a repolished 2017.

I would not do it. If the other watch was on a bracelet then I would go for it. Your choice but not for me.

No way!!! Keep your brand new watch. As others have said you can always swap the dial down the road.
History is important and you're the one and only owner of your watch. Keep it that way.
