Dilemma over keeping a 14060M or trading it for 16610

So I’m all set to go into the pre-ceramic Sub route so I’m not gonna consider 114060/124060 and their date variants.

I recently bought a late 2011 random serial 14060M from the grey and I absolutely love it. However I have been looking at my watch whenever I need to know the date. That’s because I’ve been an Apple Watch user for the longest time and it’s second nature to look at my wrist for date as well.

So I’m wondering if I should be practical and get the 16610 instead. As much as I like the 14060M I’m afraid I might miss an appointment or something just because of the lack of date register. But it’s painful to let a random serial 14060M go since they never made many of these.

Thoughts?

I like both but I wear my 14060M more than my 16610.

The date is handy but I have my iPhone with me most of the time.

Me too. I'll take it one step further and say my 14060M would probably be the last watch I ever sold.

I am like you and check my watch for the date, it's a tough habit to shake since I've literally been doing this since I was a kid wearing Casios. So no-date watches kinda drive me crazy and I wouldn't wear one as a daily wearer. So if this is going to be a daily wearer for you, yea, I'd do the swap.

Having said that, if you are able to use your smartphone to check the date and become comfortable with it, then maybe you can consider keeping the 14060. I personally think smartphones are why simple no-date watches are seeing a bit of a resurgence in popularity.

There's also the good old bezel trick, have the triangle point to the minute marker that corresponds to the date. You just have to commit to not using the bezel for anything else during the day or making sure to reset it to the date.

How many times a day do you need to check the date ??? Keep the 14060M and write the date on the back of your hand - job done.

I would trade 14060M for 16610 only if it’s in the same condition. Later 16610s have the engraved rehaut like on your 14060M. I would personally go for a Solid Endlinks (a nice upgrade), unpolished and mint (I don’t really care about engraved réhaut or not/ lug holes or not).

Here is a picture of my M Serial 16610 I bought brand new in 2009 and well worn since then. It has no lug holes, solid end links and engraved réhaut.

Perhaps check out the 16600 you'll get the same no-date look but would still have the date.

A bit heavier, beefier and wobblier but looks so good, below is a pic of mine.

Actually would really like to try out the 14060 as well as I imagine that would be much more comfortable watch to wear as I don't have very big wrists.

If you need the date function, get a watch with a date function.

I'm one of those old dinosaurs that keeps a huge calendar hanging in plain sight in my kitchen but I still feel like something is wrong if my watch doesn't have a date function. Go figure.

I’m biased but it’s the 16600 above both imo :)

Never sell that 14060M Sub. That’s the apex of Rolex design.

I mean, it’s the best watch in terms of proportions. Flawless. Just tried the 16610 and it wears about the same. Just that it wears higher on the wrist compared to the 14060M.

Anyway, you guys are spot on when being wax lyrical about the 14060M. I mean look at this:

I would keep the Sub. Honestly I would prefer not to have dates on my watch (or at least no cyclops). Just look at the date in the morning on your phone or computer and you should be fine. I don't usually check the date more than once anyway even for watches that have a date. Maybe I'm just used to it as 1/2 my watches don't have a date. If your worried about missing appointments just set it in your phone to remind you and problem solved.

Keep the ND Submariner. Stop looking at your watch and think about the date. If you know todays date then you know tomorrows date and yesterdays date. You have a phone if you really need to know the leap year but why not learn the months that have 30 or 31 days and move on. The date in the modern world is nice but with other technology not needed. Same could be said for a watch but that is a whole other discussion. The ND Submariner so beautifully proportioned I would not sell it.

This is the 40mm SD yes? I would love to try it but the rehaut isn’t engraved and I like to have the ROLEX engraving there on mine. Lovely piece you have there!

I would keep it. Drove me crazy in my Milgauss at first not having the date. Eventually my habits sort of adjusted. I’m good with it now days. Just took a bit.

The 14060M is a keeper.

I confirm the date when I log onto TRF

My first Submariner in 1979 was a date model so I won’t even consider one without a date.

So all your appointments are in your head and you’re relying on the date function to remind you? They have these new cool things called iPhones which have calendars built in them.

In the past year the no dates have gotten slightly hotter than the date subs so you should try to get cash on top. I have a 16610 that I am quite bored with; I would stick w what you have.

The two watches are not the same, I found the 14060 noticeably more comfortable, as someone here noted the 16610 sits higher.

I have two date Rolexes, but like the idea of a ND for weekends and vacations where I try to disengage from the world a bit, if that makes sense.

Fantastic! Can’t go wrong either way. Proportions are so good on these 5-digits. 16610 or 14060M

Yes I can rely on my iPhones for appointment reminders but I do have to fill up logs at work and it’s essential to write the correct date on them. I can’t remember what date it is even tho I’ve seen it many times for the day. First world problems.
