Incoming BLNR after a 2yr wait (story time)

Finally got the call from my AD after a 2 year wait! I'll try to make a long story short in hopes it may help other enthusiasts navigate the AD process, although it's probably not anything new.

- Desired a Rolex since I was a young lad.
- In 2018 I set an extremely ambitious multi-year career goal to justify a Rolex purchase.
- End of 2020 I hit the goal and naively showed up at a Rolex AD in a town my wife and I love to vacation in.
- Was pretty much laughed at and told I wouldn't be able to get a Rolex from them. "Impossible" the SA said while wearing a Hulk with a blue suit. “Take a look at the Omegas”
- Ended up buying an Omega (obviously not from this AD).

The Rolex itch would not go away so I thought I’d go to my local AD, register my interest, etc.

Met a very nice SA who took down all my information, and recorded the watch(es) I was interested in, BLNR and black sub date. Luckily this AD is walkable from a place my wife likes to shop, so I popped in every few months. She (the SA) knew me by name after a few visits. I would also infrequently check-in via email but only after the first year of waiting/visiting the store. The SA never pushed me to buy a thing from their store.

Coming up on year 2, naturally, I started to feel like I wasn’t being taken seriously for a watch.

Last month was my wife’s birthday and she also had just received a huge academic award. I was so proud of her that I wanted to get her something special – and the AD happened to have what I wanted to get her. So there’s the $5k “spend history”.

When I was picking up my wife’s gift, I chatted with the manager while waiting on my SA to finish up with another customer. He is a “watch guy” and noticed my Omega right away. He quickly figured out I was also a watch enthusiast.

A few weeks later I swung by the store again to talk to the manager, and took the opportunity to ask what the chances are of me actually getting a watch soon. He asked what my top picks were, I told him a BLNR on Jubilee… and black sub date as a distant second. He didn’t bat and eye, shook my hand and gave me his word with the caveat he didn’t know when inventory would arrive.

About 4 weeks later I got the call from my SA!

Props to my AD, and the management especially, for getting a special watch into a real enthusiast’s hands. A BLNR as my first Rolex, even on the exact bracelet I wanted… I could not be happier!

Cheers

Congratulations! Wonderful watch. Great that it worked out with your AD. It can be disheartening to deal with ADs like the first example.

I've followed your story in other threads. Super happy for you! I think the $5K spend along with another follow up must have sealed the deal for you.

More pics....

Great to see it going into the hands of a true enthusiast! I've seen some of your past posts and I knew it would just be a matter of time before you scored one.

There's some that have been waiting years for a BLNR complaining on this very forum about treatment from various ADs, tie-in purchase requirements, but your experience as a first time purchaser (Rolex) goes to show it is all about your approach and demeanor.

I think the manager had the most influence on this allocation but yes, I’m sure the 5k spend helped too.

Sure I probably paid a little more than what I could’ve paid somewhere else for what I bought my wife. But they just got that Breitling in and held it for me until I could get to the store (never hit the showcase). Win win And now, whenever I need something for my wife of course this AD is going to be first choice.

Congrats and great story and way to continue to space out your follow ups with the AD. I’m waiting for the EXACT same call for the BLNR on jubilee.

Thanks sir! I believe having a bit of business sense and putting yourself in the ADs shoes, helps understand the situation even though it sucks sometimes.

I’m sure there are plenty of bad ADs, just like my first experience noted in the OP. Ironically that AD no longer sells Rolex.

Key is to find the good ADs, try to find an SA and/or manager that is a “watch person” that can relate to our obsessions and then follow up and be patient.

Congratulations! I see a trend here now. Good sign as I just picked up a BLRO a few days ago. But in my case, I pretended that I totally knew my SA even though I just met him once.

My tip is don’t give up, be yourself, and show your sincere passion for the brand. You will eventually get what you want. In my case, it’s even the same day I’m registering for my interest.
