Show us your Explorer 40s!

Hey everyone - I realize there have been a few threads in which people are showing off live pics of the Explorer 40 (this is in addition to the media pics from W&W). I wanted to see if there were any interest in consolidating them here, I can't wait to see one in the metal but this is the next best thing! I understand they may be few and far between but it's worth a shot.

IMHO the 36 Explorer looks sleeker and would be my choice over the new 40.

Was in my AD last week and they had one that had come in for a client who's a pro athlete and Rolex collector -- and 6'4" 230. It's lovely but a whole lot of dial, likely a better fit for those with larger wrists or who prefer a higher dial/ bezel ratio overall, a la BP 43.

When these were released I did think about swapping my place on the Exp 36 list for a (far more distant) place on the 40, but my wrist is 6.75 and I already find my Longines Spirit Ti largish for a 3-hander. I prefer to dive with larger watches but the Exp works best in the smaller size for me. Nice to have options though.

In my case the decision was made for me -- my 36 is in, and I should be able to pick it up in a week or so once home. Can't wait.

I know people have their preferences and such, but does the thickness of a driver's license or credit card (~1mm) make that much difference?

Agree. When I saw it on a stand, or in a display box, it looks great, in terms of proportionality (same as the 36). But too large, flat, and dial-y for my liking.

I need a few more posts before I can link images - but I brought in my OP39 to compare and it was hard to tell any difference other than the obvious larger crown.

39mm was too large, 40mm is certainly too large. But - people keep forgetting that everyone has a different wrist size. A 40mm Explorer could fit someone with a large wrist perfectly. Someone with a small wrist like myself should simply go for the 36mm.

The Explorer makes a great 1 watch collection, but in my opinion it becomes mundane in a multi watch collection.

Can't wait - that'd be the first comparison between the older 39 style case with this new 40.

I am still waiting for mine. My AD said July. He sourced me othe models and I know he will come through, as always.
Can’t wait!.
Since I have large wrists, I was hoping Rolex releases 41mm Explorer. Hopefully 40mm will look small.

If you want a 41mm Explorer, I would suggest you get the previous generation Tudor Ranger. Absolutely stunning watch. It’s basically a 4 digit Explorer except 41mm. I love everything about it except it’s a little too big for me to wear.

Would be perfect on you.

The 39mm was perfect. Absolute perfect size, perfect proportions, and the most balanced dial. I will never sell mine. Here it is on a 6.25 inch wrist.

Timely post. I went to my AD to compare the 2 on 6.75” wrist yesterday. Went in convinced that the 40 would be the one, but as others have pointed out, there’s something about it that feels off proportion wise.
I’m on the fence on whether the 36 is a tad too small. Really need to step back and consider whether I would adapt to the size as it may just be I’m used to the 40’s. I do own 2 Daytonas and they are definitely the smallest size/fit wise for obvious reasons and are perfect size wise for me…the hunt continues…
