WTA: need advise to decide, 16014 or 16030?

newbie here, urgently need advise in deciding which to buy.

someone here in Jakarta offered me the following rolex watches:
  1. 16014, movement cal. 3035, white gold bezel, silver textured dial (don't know how to describe it, it's just not smooth), heavy jubilee bracelet, at approx. USD 1,200; or
  1. 16030, movement cal. 3035, steel bezel, black dial, heavy jubilee bracelet, at approx. USD 1,225.

The seller said they are both in very good condition, unfortunately he hasn't sent me the pics. Based on the descriptions, however, I need opinion on:
  1. which is more reasonably priced?
  1. which is more collectible? (is it true black dial is more difficult to find and therefore more collectible?)

Tomorrow evening, I'm meeting the seller to see the watches. Any opinion would be highly appreciated.

Hello & welcome

Perhaps take some photos and get some more details, then post up here for opinions before deciding. Rushing into a purchase is not a good idea.

Cheers

thanx Psmith, for the extra quick respond.

finally, the seller mms-ed me the pics. here they are:

16014 (the dial turns out to be cream, not silver)

16030 (not too clear, coz from the side, here with a non-rolex leather band, but the heavy jubilee bracelet is available and he said is in very good condition)

what do U think?

They both look ok to me but I would be tempted to go for the black dial....I think you could grow tired of the cream one, I have had a black dial 16030 for 21 years (and my silver avatar for 23 years) and have never tired of the look.....the white Gold bezel model is usually more expensive, they have the same movement (which in my opinion is a great one) it was updated late 80's so that makes thse two early to mid 80's at the youngest in US $'s that doesn't seem too bad to me......mine cost 853GBP in 1988......not sure what today's conversion is.....but be careful....as we always say on here.....buy the seller before you buy the watch

thanx for the advise, Bill. and the warning. the seller is pretty well-known amongst Indonesian watch lovers (I've asked a couple of friends about him), which are not many, so I believe it's save to buy from him. beside he said "full set", which here usually means complete with box and papers.

anyone else have opinion for this newbie? ;-P

i love my 16014, silver dial with WG bezel (R series - so 1987ish) paid $1200 US for it, no papers, but box and other accessories.

the cream "linen" dial is really super.. i prefer it over the black.

Personally I prefer the 16030, thanks to the engine turned bezel. In this case I find the black dial more attractive as well.

Good luck in your decision!

Best,

A

a very nice 16030 U've got there, Brian!

anyway, back to the problem at hand.

when the seller told me he's re-considering selling the 16014, 'coz there's a tiny problem with the crown, I thought that would make my decision-making a lot easier. turned out, when he came to my office this afternoon, he brought another rolex he's gonna sell: a 1675.

the only problem is the thin jubilee bracelet. everything else looks ok. he's selling it for approx. USD 3,500. both 16030 and 1675 are in very good condition.

any opinion on which to choose: 16030 or 1675???
