Rolex is not a Sandwich

Rolex applies for brand protection in Uganda, not wanting to be confused with a popular sandwich

Obviously just setting a precedent. I don't see this going any further than that. It only serves to demonstrate that the brand is actively protecting its name. That's all.

Or

Planning to release a model with a sandwich dial

Have to agree in the real world Rolex only owns the name Rolex when its associated with watches clocks watch parts etc. There are a few companies world wide called Rolex that have nothing to do with the mechanical watch industry.

They also own the word "Oyster" when it's associated with watches and clocks.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure there's a dry cleaner called Rolex in my wider area . Have seen their truck a few times.

Understandable. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve tried to phone someone with a Golden Delicious. If only Apple had this approach to brand protection, I’d sleep better at night.

Third World problems.

Seriously, though, it's getting a bit much with Rolex going after the small guy (or gals in this case): https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=889041

I used to wonder at petty actions like this, until someone mentioned to me that if you own a brand and some tiny outfit somewhere infringes, and you know about it, and you do nothing about it, then it's much easier for someone else to then appropriate your brand name and claim that, because you did nothing in the first instance, then you have no right to take action in the second instance.
