YM42 Phantom
Who said a YachtMaster 42 was less beautiful than a Daytona?

Not a fan of the YM 42 at all....
Bezel is hard to read and looks like a ding magnet. Not a Daytona fan either sorry

Just saw the YM42 in person at the Geneva Boutique a few days ago. I really liked the watch. The matte dial was gorgeous and the bezel is supposed to be ceramic so no more ding concerns than with a Sub, No???

Thank you for your comments. It's true that the 116619LN is a mytic watch, first of all because it's a Daytona and the word Daytona for collectors has a meaning. But I find that in recent years, Rolex has been changing its range and building innovative watches like the YachtMaster 42.
This watch is modern, being a little bigger, but the black bezel makes up for this. It also increases the size of the dial, making the numerals and hour-markers more legible and freer in this space. The date is also easy to read. The gold color is not the same as on the Daytona. It's white gold, which stands out in the sunlight against the other black elements. This makes it a fascinating monochromatic watch. I think you have to see it in person to appreciate this. The Daytona will always be the Daytona, but I find that next to it, it's getting a little old. I have a small handle and it doesn't seem too big compared to the 1166519LN. Rolex has always been innovative with its YachtMaster range, it was the first to have the Oysterflex, the first to have the 42 diameter... perhaps this is a sign that the YachtMasters are about to emerge from the shadows? Thank you for your enlightened opinions... Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version) |

I'm happy it's in 42mm, because at a smaller size, I would have started to lust it very much. I enjoy the shine of steel and my submariner, but this YM is very tempting. |

I personally favour the YM in 42, and came very close to buying itwhen ,my AD brought one in for me to see. It is stunningin person, much more than you would expect. Sometimes I still wish I would have bought it. But when they came out with the 42mm in yellow gold I snapped that up in a second and have regretted it for a second. It is brilliant in either rendition… i love the size of the dial are larger hands and indices, and the beautiful subtlety of the case. I also find the Oysterflex strap with Glidelock extremely comfortable and this has been my daily wear practically since I bought it.
I prefer it to the daytona, which I have owned twice and sold twice… once in ss black dial, and once in yellow gold, champagne dial with black subs and ceramic bezel on Oysterflex. It was gorgeous! But… and I’m not a size snob… it always looked a little too small on my 7.5” wrist compared to the 42mm YM and I basically stopped wearing the daytona. These new YM’s are amazing pieces… classy, elegant, different, legible, great water resistance (took mine to hawaii recently) and super comfortable. Congratulations on your pair… that’s and outstanding duo. R |

I really like both but given the YM has basically the same dial as an Explorer 2, Sub and Sea Dweller, so the Daytona is more unique and feels more special especially if you already own a number of those. Now if only they made it in the same size as the YM!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Really kinda hard to compare a Daytona to anything else, IMO.
I will say this, though. When comparing to 11-series Daytona to the YM, the glide lock clasp makes a better fit possible...again, my opinion. |

The size of my wrist is 6.7 inches. I don't think this comes as a shock, on the contrary. |

A Daytona, it's beautiful, it's mythical, and not everyone wants one. However, this YachtMaster (in my opinion) prefigures the Rolexes of tomorrow, and compared to a Daytona I think it seems to live, the hands move and there's the date. But I don't want to convince you, I'd just like the YachtMaster range to be a little better known by enthusiasts. Have a nice day! |

As a matter of fact, I would go so far as to say the YM is the more practical everyday wearer of the two...but then go even farther and say "both" have a place in my collection. |

I've come to love the YM over the past few years - in all its forms. I probably should have gotten it over the sub as my first watch a decade plus ago.
Such a great piece
