For years I thought 36mm too small...

But I recently came into possession of this circa 1973, 1603...

Even on my 8" wrist I think it looks okay...

36mm was the default size for decades for a reason.

I think the size looks great. I have a smaller wrist and will try my son's 36 explorer when I visit in a few weeks.

The beautiful thing about smaller watches is that you get to see the wonderful bracelet with no lug over hang or watch only wrist presence

I was going in the bigger direction for a while, and then got my first Daytona, which changed everything for me. While it is listed by Rolex as a 40mm case, we all know it's more like 38mm, which I think fits my 7.5" wrist great. It's now harder to wear big watches.

Classic watch, classic look. Looks good on your wrist - and I’m sure you’ve got plenty of other options to fulfill the larger watch wrist experience, as needed.

I'm starting to think it's less of a size thing and more of a proportions/design thing. There was a lot more function than form put into design of watches back in the day as they were still somewhat considered tools. Even the "design-first" Genta type watches still had to be designed with a great deal of comfort in mind as people actually wore their watches back in the day.

Basically every single sports Rolex released in the 50s still looks good despite some being quite small. OTOH, the Speedy Pro Moonwatch has always been 42mm which is huge for the standards of its time but also looks awesome.

36mm is a great watch size.

Allows more selection of beautiful pieces vs being restricted for no valid reason.

I am considering adding back a vintage 36 mm DJ. I think 40-44 mm is my sweet spot. I do have a 45 mm Breitling that I enjoy. I had a 47 mm CFB TravelTec that I sold because it was too big! I have a 7.75-8" wrist.

I think for vintage/dressier pieces 34-36mm is great but on sports models it feels like I’m wearing my wife’s watches.

This Cellini is 34mm and I dig it. But my DJ is a 41 (really closer to 39mm) and I wouldn’t go smaller.

My Rolex is a 36mm DJ and I love it. But I have to admit, I sometimes do wish I went for the larger size, only because I prefer bigger watches.

My wrist is 6.75" and my BB58 at 39mm is borderline too small, in my opinion, I couldn't wear 36mm.

Looks great…and especially if you wore it dressed up with a suit. I’m a big fan of the 36mm and usually think it’s best up to 7.25ish but you seem to be able to pull it off.

Looks classic and great to me. I don't really think of 'big' or 'small' as either-or: a place for both depending on what the owner likes.

I agree it is too small from most brands unless it is a Rolex DayDate on an average sized wrist…

I used to think that too, and I have a 7.25 inch wrist.

Sorry but I do think it looks too small, watches somehow always appear larger on the wrist in pics

In all honesty no one cares about your watch when you’re fit and good looking.

I like it because it is vintage. The size works.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one of these. Your wrist looks about like mine. Thoughts on ownership? If you have a sub or sea dweller, does it feel redundant?

Looks great, by the way.

It always depends on the size of "each" wrist
