Trade considerations for a blue dial skydweller

Good day forum members, I’m a new member having joined this month and thoroughly enjoy all the information and free exchange of years of knowledge by the membership for our benefit.
My question is would giving up a new 40 mm explorer, along with blue dial milgauss and I’m sure some cash to obtain a blue dial skydweller with jubilee band be an option.
I was lucky to purchase the new explorer last month from my AD. Perhaps just being patient and waiting is the better choice.
What do you think?
Thanks for your ideas and opinions.
Regards,
Mike

Man, I wouldn't do that. Trade a new model watch my AD just got for you? It's just wrong on a bunch of different levels. Yeah, I'll agree you were lucky. Not even getting into the whole relationship thing, I'll just ask: you're not going to even give it a chance and try it out before you trade it?

Now if you're sick of the millie, never plan on wearing it again, and want to trade it for the Sky, different story. Expect to take an ass beating, though.

Does your AD know of your interest in the Sky? If he got you a new model watch, that may be achievable.

Trade considerations

I’ve thought about it, and I’m leaning towards just waiting and not jumping into a rash decision. The explorer and the milgauss will stay out for now. Skydwellers are great, and I’ll enjoy two watches for now. How who knows, maybe gray mkt prices will slowly fall for some skydwellers.
Thanks for your input.

A blue SD is the most difficult to obtain and the highest priced on the secondary market.

Tastes change

Do what makes you happy

Don’t worry about anyone else

“Worth it” - is so subjective - real question is it worth it to you?

Welcome to the forum; Go Blue!!

In all seriousness, I’d wait and just add the SkyD when funds allow. You can let your AD know you’re interested in one, but next to a white dial SS Daytona, it’s about the hardest SS reference to get from an AD so I wouldn’t hold my breath. If you pick one up grey and ever so get the call, you could easily sell the grey one and get a good chunk of your money back.

Who knows, if you AD likes you they might offer you some nice consolation pieces while you’re “on the list” for the SkyD.

Definitely wouldn’t flip the new Explorer you just got from them though.

Yea figured I’d give you a welcome jab lol. Dad is a U of M grad and I spent a good chunk of my youth in Ann Arbor. The Buckeye hate runs deep

Always happy to see new members though!

Depends on how much you want the Sky dweller and how much you don't want the other two. If I was confident my AD will produce the Sky Dweller at some stage I would be happy to wait. I prefer add, most of the time.

Flipping the Explorer so fast may hurt your relationship with your AD if they learn of it. Smart move to sit back and ponder it further.

If you want the SkyD do it, why settle for 2 watches when you keep wanting the other one? Life is too short to wait, you never know how tomorrow will be.

Keeping both, patience is a virtue, so I’d also rather add to the collection than to surrender two nice examples, just for one very special example.
The impulse move has passed. I feel much better,,,for now.

The premium isn’t actually that much on a blue sky considering how difficult they are to obtain at retail

Yes! Blue dial Sky-Dweller would be worth the swap for those two pieces!

Love my SkyD, but don’t think I would do that deal unless there’s a big rush with a good reason.

SkyD prices are also starting to get reasonable on the secondary market.

We are in a new era now. Don’t worry about offending anyone. If you want out of the Explorer thats your business.

Why not get the information on what the values are on your watches and what it would take to get a blue Sky-Dweller. Call a few of our Trusted Sellers and have that discussion. Also ask what a NIB Explorer is worth as opposed to a preowned one. Might be a few thousand dollars so that can figure into it also. In the end, it is about what you want to do and what you are willing to pay. I would rather have the Sky-Dweller than your two watches as I think the Sky-Dweller is one of the best and most unique models Rolex makes. As an incremental step you might consider the white dial or black dial Sky-Dweller as the out of pocket for you will not be as much and you can then trade and move to the blue dial as the funds are available. I own all three SS Sky-Dweller models and a YG one and if I had to go to just one it would be the white dial, today. The blue is a flex but in the end I wear the white dial more, followed by the black dial and then the blue.

Good decision to stay put. Add the Skydweller when you can.

Wrist size is another consideration before jumping over the the skydweller.

FWIW...the blue Skydweller is coming down in price fast. I saw one sell on Moda for $17.8k a few days ago. Nice piece, too, about a year old. I doubt the Explorer and Milgauss will lose a ton of value fast...be patient.

That’s quite a Sky-D collection!
