Incoming . . . Seiko Prospex 1965 Diver’s Re-Creation 62MAS LE (SJE093) > > >
I’ve been hemming and hawing on whether I would pursue this latest opportunity. I missed out on the SLA017, which was released in 2017.
I discovered a local AD that I never knew existed after doing some research on Seiko’s site. Yesterday afternoon, I decided to visit this AD. Upon arrival, I immediately went to Seiko display cases and did not see the SJE093. A sales lady approached asking if she could assist me. I replied, “Well, please don’t laugh. I may be too late to the party. But I was wondering if you have the new SJE093?” After logging on to her computer, she responded, “We have one!” Well, after placing it on my wrist, it didn’t take long for me to take out the plastic and pull the trigger! This latest re-edition is almost an exact recreation of the original 62MAS in a limited edition series of 1965 pieces, which are numbered. We are looking at a case diameter of 38mm and a case height of 12.5mm including the box-shaped sapphire crystal. The dial is grey with a subtle sunburst finish. It’s powered by a new movement, the 6L37, which is a 4 Hz automatic movement with 26 jewels and a power reserve of 45 hours. Unlike the SLA017, there is no bracelet option with this. It comes on a black Tropic-style silicone strap, which is quite long in typical Seiko fashion. I will definitely be on the hunt for another Tropic- style strap will smaller dimensions! It comes in a retro-style box: I really appreciate the distortion effects: The lume is quite impressive: Apologies if this upsets those of you who were fortunate in obtaining the SLA017. Honestly, I’m not sure how I would feel. Seiko appears to be on this cycle where they re-introduce a new homage every several years. But I’m grateful to have been provided another opportunity to finally own a 62MAS re-edition! Thanks for looking! Best, Mark |
