Add 1 to this collection: Daytona / Overseas / 15300ST / Lange 1815 Up Down?

Another one of these threads. Always fun!

Add one to the collection below:

1). Pepsi 126710 BLRO
2). Sub 124060
3). Omega Ed White Calibre 321

My reasons for liking each (all in the same price range):

1). Daytona Panda: Would complete the Rolex triumvirate: Land, Sea and Air. I’ve also always felt an itch for one. And yes, I do enjoy the occasional flex :)

2). VC Overseas (Blue): An integrated steel watch is missing in the collection. This allows a graduation into high horology and suits multiple situations with the strap change system

3). AP 15300ST: Pure Lust and the same reasons as the overseas. But hear that this one is fragile

4). Lange 1815 Up and Down: The brand I admire the most and the one I said I would aspire to get at the beginning of my watch journey. Still afraid that, despite me trying, I’m still a “basic sports watch” guy and after the honeymoon is over, I might not be as much in love. Given the quantum of the purchase, also don’t want to lose too much value and Langes drop significantly. Just feel like I’m not as mature into the watch journey to appreciate such a precious piece.

Would love thoughts!

I don’t have the 1815 up/down but I have a different Lange and various Rolexes.

You have two steel sports watches and a chronograph already
- the overseas and Daytona are probably going to be duplicative of what you have in some respects. Same might be said for Royal Oak. It’s hard to explain how special a Lange is. It’s another level of watchmaking. Perhaps the same as VC and AP in terms of finishing and build quality, but a different design language. More classical and elegant. More delicate and perhaps less versatile, but that’s no issue when you have other steel watches. They really are marvels of engineering and aesthetics in w a way that surpasses almost current watch brands, IMO If you are concerned about resale value, Langes should retain some residual value but the reality is, if buying new at current RRP, there’s a paper loss as soon as you deal the dealership. But to me, that’s what real luxury is about - being able to afford to take a hit, rather than only being able to afford something because it has a strong resale value.

VC Overseas based on the above -
But would also consider a gently used Lange Up/Down

Very interesting perspective. Thanks!

Lange is special for all sorts of reasons, and the up/down is arguably one of the best ALS references at any price point. It captures all of the ALS design aesthetics and has a beautifully balanced dial and a manual wind movement. 100% fabulous choice for a first or even only Lange (or dress watch, for that matter). For this reason, I’d make the ALS up/down the watch to add to your collection.

Skip the Daytona unless you replace the Speedmaster with it, otherwise it’s duplicative. The curation choice you’ve made is Ed White Speedmaster over the Daytona (makes sense), but also the Ed White Speedmaster over having the Rolex land/sea/air triumverate. I personally would prefer to have the complete Rolex triumverate, so I’d try to replace the Speedmaster with the Daytona.

Between VC or Royal Oak, that’s a toss up. I would go Royal Oak for history and that incredible bracelet. I also think the VC is a bit clunky in width and bracelet compared to the Royal Oak. Finally, I am not a huge fan of Richemont, so I would prefer AP to a Richemont brand, especially if you get an ALS, which is dipping your toe into Richemont country.

That said, adding only one, I would have a strong preference for the ALS up/down, which meaningfully expands your collection.

Hearing they’re significantly fragile compared to the newer Royal Oaks. True?

Not at all, 3120 AP calibre in the 15300 is very robust.

+1. AP 15300 has perfect size at 39mm and bracelet is the prettiest out of the bunch.

I'd also go for the 15300, if you can find one in decent shape.

Very difficult choice and the 4 options are stunning and beautiful watches.
As you are into sport watches Lange you might get bored of the Lange unless you tried it many times, saw it, dreamt about it and you know for sure it’s the one.

Daytona and 15300 would be my top choices. You can daily wear the Daytona the design is amazing and you can daily wear it. The 15300 has a very unique design bracelet and dial with the perfect 39mm. With all the brushed surfaces it will gets scratched very easily but AP are very good at repolishing watches.

VC would be a nice addition as well with the unique design and the beautiful dial (if you go blue).

If I had to make a ranking it would be Daytona or 15300 then VC then Lange

#4. I love a dress watch and think you already have Rolex covered.

Lange up/down for sure. Iconic.

The AP and VC are great, absolutely great, as well. BUT so long as you'll wear it . . . I'd get the Lange.

Up Down base on your collection.
Overseas is also good though.

I own the up/down and can concur it’s very special. Sparkles in the watch box and just comes to life when on the wrist. I take many wrist shots. But, I enjoy wearing it most when getting dressed up which limits its applicability.

I'd suggest a preowned 1815 Up/Down. Patiently look for a good one for a fair price.

I would get the Daytona to complement your Ed White 321 and to finish the Rolex trio...

after this is done, I'd add the Lange dress to mix up the variety in your collection

That collection already covers some key aspects of what I’m looking for. Of the ones you consider it’s hands down the VC for me. One of the coolest watches of all time.
Daytonas I don’t care for (you already have a stellar Speedmaster which blows those out of the water). AP I don’t like either for their designs. Lange, while Swiss owned, is still an East German company and I don’t see the point when there are plenty of Swiss brands to chose from. Weird designs with their dates also.
Other ones I’d look at: vintage Explorer to stick the the theme you have going there. Or a nice dress watch like a basic Calatrava, Reverso or a nice Blancpain (which for some reason doesn’t get much love here on these forums).
But the VC is the winner with doubling as elegant dress watch and adventurer/traveler kind of thing. And flies under the radar.

15300. It's combination of sports and dress watch with the movement of the Offshore and the same case diameter as the jumbo.
