60th Birthday Present

Hi I am 60 next year. I want something special or different I bought my first Rolex 30 yrs ago. A Submariner Date and still have it along with a few other pieces.

I really like the new YM TI 42 but also the new 126500 Panda . Then the Lemans is to die for. Nothing like aiming high eghh .

What would you buy ?

Thanks

Good for you. I would go on an amazing vacation and wear the Submariner for another 30 years.

60th Birthday Present

Nice write up. My story is more or less the same. Next year I will be 60 and I bought 33 years ago my first Datejust TOG steel/gold with champagne face. Unfortunately not with me anymore.

But I am not gonna buy a Rolex for my 60th birthday and leave for a holiday in Thailand to celebrate mentioned birthday.

But if I personally could pick a Rolex for that event I would look for a NOS DJII 116333 (late serie, let say 2016/2017.

Go Daytona. Its the perfect upscale companion to your Sub.

Both good choices. The Daytona is so classic, maybe would go with that.
Happy birthday, to your good health!

My advice: Go to an AD, wearing your Sub, tell him of the upcoming special milestone, and ask to be put on the list for a Daytona, though I like the idea of a gold 36 mm DayDate a little better. But it’s your BD, not mine!

At 60 I would no longer refer to the white dial SS Daytona as a “Panda”. ;-)

A gold DD with a 3155 would be my choice.

DD is the pinnacle. Although, to go in another direction, lower end, a tudor gmt with white dial is pretty cool

I would suggest a 118238/118239/118206. I prefer these over any of the current references.

Assuming you have that double red sd patent pending piece in your avatar line I think that may be as bad ass as you can get, but I understand the urge for new pieces. I like the DD idea

I do still own it , I seem to wear it less and less, it feels small and delicate ,along with my 1680 meters first and 5513, I am happy to keep them but love the new bits again .

I had gone off Modern and went vintage about 10 yrs ago .

I bought a Explorer II Polar. Of course, this was when you could actually buy them from an AD!
