Different logos in AP 15500

I don't know if this has been spoken about, but I just realized there are 2 versions of the logo used in the 15500.

The one we see on the press pictures, and it seems the most common one, is one where the A and P only connect on the top and the bottom, like this:




But there's also a version where the A and P are totally connected :




It seems like the letters are totally connected, and the middle part between the letters is matt instead of polished.

Searching on Google not many like this appear, on Chrono24 some more can be found, it seems most of them are 2021 models, some also very late 2020 ones.

Does anyone know why this happened? Because 2019 models when they were presented have the letters like on the first pictures with the gap, and mine which is one of the latest 2022 ones before the 15510 also has the gap. The ones without gap seem to be in the middle of the production line.

If I had to guess, they might have some supply / manufacturing / sourcing / labor challenges during the covid years and had to resort to the no gap logo instead of the gap logo bc it presumably was easier to source or manufacture in house

That can make sense I guess, because it's weird that at the beginning and end of production there was no gap, which seems more difficult to manufacture, but in the middle for some months there is a gap.

Let's see if the poll can tell us how common these "no gap" models are.

My mid-2019 has the top/bottom connected logo:

Early 2020 15500ST with gap, maybe the no gap is an error logo as I personally think it looks off. I

You might be right about the one that fell in the middle of the production line. My 15450 is from 2020 and it has the “filled in” version. Never actually noticed until I came across this thread.
While it doesn’t really bother me my 37mm, I think the gap version is a much better fit for the larger dials…
