Someone is going to be very happy when they get the call

Stopped by my AD today. Checking out what they had in the display case. Subs, DJs, GMTs, SeaDweller and OPs were represented, including a 36MM celebration dial. A YG 36MM DD with the green dial was also there. Then 2 boxes pulled from the back. A mint green SkyDweller and then BOOM ! The YG Daytona with the green dial is sublime. Someone is going to be very happy when they get the call on that Daytona.

Both very pretty watches. If those are already allocated, why are they letting YUU try them on? Is that normal practice?

I guess what an AD does varies by AD and probably by customer.
I have a very good relationship with my AD. They've shown me a lot of pieces they had in the back because they know I'm a hopeless WIS and would appreciate seeing them. They also know that I am super careful handling them. I never put something on my wrist without asking if it's OK to do so. I'm super careful not to let the fliplock clasp touch the six o'clock side of the bracelet if equipped with one and I always lay the watch on the display mat on its side so the bracelet doesn't touch the case back.
Perhaps at the end of the day it's no different than selling a watch that has been in the display case and handled or putting a sold piece in the case before it can be picked up as has been reported here.
I did appreciate seeing them both

I wouldn't want my AD letting people touch or try on my watch but they both look great!

Crazy to think that someone else's arm pubes might have been rubbed all over a watch that was allocated for me... these ADs are crazy.

Also the AD should just go ahead and make the calls instead of sitting on 'em (yes, I realize calls may have been made and the owner is coming in soon to pick it up but you know what I mean).

That's why watches have stickers.

That's not the point and the entire watch isn't stickered.

It’s not anyone’s watch but the AD’s until it’s paid for.

Additionally, have you ever considered that when you go to buy shoes, someone with athlete's foot and stinky socks may have tried them on before you?

The Daytona is spectacular in person....... saw one in the flesh for the first time last week and it left me a bit speechless. Absolutely mega watch.

We used to buy watches that had been sitting in display cases for periods of time(sometimes very long periods) and who knows how many dozens of people tried them on. No big deal.

Kind of an odd thread imo.

It’s like posting someone’s sold car on the dealer floor with you in it fondling everything.

Yeah but those watches weren’t already paid/spoken for.

These are probably not allocated just sitting in the safe for the "right" customer.

I’m right there with you, Brian. I wasn’t questioning the OP’s motives, but I think the AD should be more protective, of a watch that’s been allocated to another customer.

I have no idea if they're allocated or not. They were simply brought out and shown to me. I thought the forum might enjoy the pics, that's all. No ulterior motives. I won't bother next time I see something cool.

What difference does THAT make? Either way, it’s meant for its eventual owner, not a display model.

Some folks showing their lack of age in this thread.

In the before-times (c. 2019), watches just sat in the case. There was no such thing as an "exhibition only" Rolex.

Agreed. I had my GMT meteorite shown to several people and photos of it were posted on this forum!! I politely told the owner of AD and he put stop to showing sold pieces by his sales staff. Stickers had already been removed to ship so had some tiny signs of wear. 1st world issues and I wear my watches pretty hard anyways.

It’s a valid point. It does make a little difference in that it speaks to inventory in the back being held until someone buys diamonds.

It highlights the AD games, which I don’t particularly mind. As long as there’s a premium market there will always be games like this.

Holy cow at some of the comments in this thread.

People buy jewelry, cars, clothing, and on and on that others have tried on, handled, and more.

LOL at anyone thinking that trying on a watch is going to damage it or devalue it for the eventual buyer.

OP thanks for sharing the photos.

If I were purchasing a piece of that rarity & price, I wouldn't appreciate the AD allowing others to handle it before me.

I purchased my first Rolex in 2008 when they were readily available in display cases but the need to now wait months or even years for pieces changes things

In normal times those wouldn't be popular IMO. Green watches used to languish in the display case waiting for a Grey to buy them within a bundle.
