Sell or keep the Explorer?

I owned a BLNR for 8 years, really liked it a lot but at some point I felt that the dial and the bezel were too "busy" and I rarely used the complication. Couple of years ago I decided to sell it and bought the 124270 Expl. as I always appreciated the history and the pure/understated tool watch looks. Just for the record, I have a relatively small wrist (6.1'') and it fits perfectly. However, after some months of experiencing it, I started missing the "substantial feeling" of a watch like the GMT and the Expl. started looking too low-key for me. Trying to fill this gap, some months ago I "discovered" the YM 40mm 126622 with the blue dial. Felt in love with it and I bought it. Ever since, I am wearing it all the time, its really amazing, a keeper! On paper, I have a good duo now, the YM as a sporty-dressy and the Expl a pure tool watch. The thing is that I am not looking for my Expl. at all. Recently I started having some thoughts around selling it and replacing it with a sub. "starbucks". My question is should I give the Expl. some time to grow on me again, or go for the sub?

Sounds like you may be addicted to getting the next watch

Try and enjoy what you have for a while and if nothing changes then do it

Welcome to the forum

I’d follow the advice above ^^^.

If you are constantly chasing the next piece, but selling one to get the next one, you’re just running in circles IMO.

Many people in this watch hobby suffer from this (watch) hunt disease.

Definitely sounds like you are always chasing that new watch "hit". Nothing wrong with that at all, but this is why a lot of people always say "only add". Personally I'd qualify that a bit (as obviously money isn't infinite for most people) and say "always add first". We've all had buyer's remorse, or a watch that hasn't quite lived up to its expectations at some point or other, so if you add first you are in a much better position to decide which you want to keep.

I did not get the impression you are always hunting for a new watch, rather you're figuring out what you really like.

The exp 1 and GMT are hyped pieces in different ways. Which I think has a strong influence on our preferences. Every picture / video I see of these two watches increases my desire but when I see them in person something is off for me.

If these models were readily available I would of probably made a purchase I would of regretted.

I think you should go to an AD and check out a Sub and see if it's too similar to the YM or if you would even wear it 30% of the time.

Checking out the sub against the YM is a smart move. I’d suggest keep what you have and maybe add the sub down the line, once you sell something you can’t get it back

I have a sub and 3 months later I added YM40 blue dial.
They are not similar, not at all.
I’m keeping both. And you should check out sub to see if it calls on you.

I too have both, and they are not that similar at all. And both will stay in the collection

Generally I would say go for it but with your wrist size of 6.1" I feel the Sub clasp might be too large for you. I have a 6.3" wrist and felt the Sub looked fine on wrist but the clasp was too wide and not as comfortable as the previous gen Sub. You have color with the YM, I say stick with the Explorer

I am always inclined to add rather than swap.

You do you. I can't tell you what you like, what you will like, or what you won't like.

A green bezel Sub may not be, for you. Get a plain black no date Sub, instead. I have your same Explorer, and I find that I go for it, often! It’s a great watch.

You have a nice duo that complement each other well. I don't think that the LV adds anything that is missing to your collection, unless you need that extra WR!

I agree with the above comments that it does sound like you love the thrill of the next watch, and whilst there isn't anything wrong with this, you should probably add first and decide later, rather than sell first and live to regret your decision. You did mention that you appreciated the history and looks of the Exp, so unless you no longer think this, I'd be cautious about being overly hasty in its sale.

With its slightly larger case and bracelet, the LV might wear the largest of all the watches you have mentioned, possibly too large, so make sure to try it on before jumping in.

I agree with your comments, and I certainly don't need the extra WR! Even though this is in my mind, I will give the Expl. some time and see how it plays out in the end. Thanks a lot!

If you're coming here looking for someone to tell you not to get another watch, you are at the wrong spot, haha. More seriously, it sounds like you fell into the rabbit hole so you can either fight it and move on entirely from this hobby, or accept it and get that Sub you really want. The one rule I think you should abide to is to not buy watches above your means. Everything else is fair game imo.

Personally I would keep...

I have slender wrists (6.7") and had an older Explorer which I traded for a GMT. Although I like the "wrist presence" of the GMTs / Subs a lot, to me they are not very comfortable as a daily wear for smaller wrists and I now have a new 124270 Explorer which I wear more often.

My experience with the Explorer is that it will forever be the watch I come back to. And it is for the same reasons you stated. It is lowkey and with lowkey you get ease of wear, reliability, versatility. I am currently selling my EXP I only to make way for ANOTHER EXP I ... I've had that watch 5 or 6 times and it seems like I'm constantly chasing that same watch.

It seems to me that you've come around to liking watches that have a little more wrist presence to them. However with your size wrist, I think I would sell the Explorer and replace it with either a 36mm OP or a 36mm DJ on jubilee. The OP & DJ ranges are going to give you a fairly wide range of dial colors to choose from that you might find more interesting than the Explorer.

I would not call wearing one watch for 8 years and then another for a few years, watch hunt disease.

OP, I would just add the Sub when you can and keep the others.
