Choice between Rolex or AP….
Hey all….If given the choice ….
For context, future value not considered in the choice, you have all other bases covered in your collection, and no ‘need” for a particular complication, metal, etc…. Where would you put your money -116506 PT Daytona -Openworked SS -Openworked RG |

The 2 openworked are much better than the Daytona. At that price point, finishing matters a lot and a machine finished Rolex cannot be compared to an openworked AP unfortunately. Between the 2 APs however, it really is a 50/50 decision. Steel APs are legendary for a reason, tracing back to its inception in 1972 but RG with its wrist presence and weight really gives the wearers a special feeling. Unless you are Taiwanese moron that sells his APs for an entry level RM….

Jokes aside, openwork is in my opinion pound-for-pound the best sports watch out there. It’s my most favorite at the very least. |

AP openworked beats almost every watch for me i think and comparing it to any rolex isn't even fair. not sure what i'd choose between the SS and RG though, feels like RG is an endgame piece but just not sure how wearable it is

Openworked is miles ahead of any Rolex. SS is my choice, due to the RO’s heritage and my personal taste. Can’t go wrong though - AP RG his best in the business

This will probably be the most lop-sided poll I have seen on this sub. Open-worked, obviously. ST vs OR is personal preference, but IMO the 15407ST is really the classic incarnation of this model.

Openworked without zero hesitation. It's the definition of haute horlogerie IMO.
I'd personally go for SS. |

SSOW because the SS material with the amount of detail is a contradiction in itself. I love the juxtaposition

Daytona by a mile… Timeless design that can be enjoyed daily. A workhorse true to its origins but in special uniform..Impeccable accuracy and execution…. Hand finishing is superfluous in this category… if u want that, much better choices out there…

Which AP openworked? 39 or 41mm? I had 39mm in past and it’s one of APs finest ROs. I think the platona is more versatile though.

Choice between Rolex or AP….
I have requested rg open and have been told next year. I’ve never seen one but I have seen the stainless one.
There is no doubt I’d take the APs! Put it this way, I’d rather have my stainless chrono than my platinum day date. Here’s the one I got to try out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The sad thing is if you ask this in the Rolex forum you’ll probably see a majority for the Daytona. SMH

The open work AP… look incredible but for me the platinum Daytona would be chosen over them.

Openworked all day, every day. Have never been a big fan of the Platinum Daytona personally, don't like the brown bezel.
Which openworked is the more difficult question, but I think the SS edges it. |

Any AP > Any Rolex
Sorry but that's just the basics of this game. Then the "squelette double balancier" is special within AP. I personally would go for RG |

For me personally it would be the Platona but that is because I have small wrists. If my wrist was 7" plus I'd go with the AP and RG as long as telling the time isn't important to you
Edit: Assuming you're looking at the 41mm |

I appreciate and respect Rolex for what it is, but any AP > any Rolex in my opinion (recognizing I am biased). The openworked pieces are on another level!

I'm used to my AP's not keeping the best times, but the double balance openworked is different. The openworked is keeping better time than my Rolexes so far.
