Sky-Dweller: when to pull trigger?

On my radar is a SS blue sky-dweller either jubilee or oyster.

Like most Rolex, pre-owned sky-dweller is making a slow let-down toward retail+plus tax.
I’m not sure if it will ever reach that point but I have decided I will only buy that reference at approximately $2k over retail+plus tax pre-owned or retail, whichever comes first.

I have asked my AD for this reference, and they say with current economic conditions, I may be offered this sooner than I thought, but of course I can’t depend on that. I have been waiting for this model for four months and I’m willing to wait for a long time. I am not in a hurry.

For reference, the model I am looking at is retail $17k with tax. I have seen a few white dial SD’s approaching this price but blue is still $23-25k.

I think we all know, across the board, these and most models are not going back up. They are falling and will be for quite some time. I believe 2024 (economically)will be far worse than this year.

So I ask you all, when is the right time? To me, it looks like middle of next year.
And I believe this applies to most references with the exception of Daytona, and I don’t know much about those anyway.

For those who care to opine,
Fire away!

Exactly in the same boat that you are, however, I don't have the patience to wait until mid-next year. Here is my take and approach:
- The black and blue SD are being reduced sometimes weekly by the Grey dealers; this to me implies that after Christmas, the reductions are going to continue on the pieces they have left.

- Watches & Wonders is around the corner in March, when that takes place, most of the attention shifts to the NOW/NEW pieces. The SD had new offerings last year; very unlikely they will have something different this year.
So, from where I'm sitting, the time to pull the trigger likely will be late January to early march, when the Greys will take offers below their asking numbers, to recoup their investment.

Perhaps before then, the call from an AD will come; they too, are realizing the present reality of the luxury watch market.

Nobody knows what the market will be like middle of next year. Stock market and even crypto are up. Everyone I know is doing well. You’re probably best off getting one from an AD.
Watches are down right now. But I wouldn’t say they’ll never go back up. I’m not worrried about any of my pieces value and many are way down currently from where I bought.
Do you think we’ve seen all time highs?

Who knows.

Who knows, but I’ll counter with a couple of points.

SkyD has always been a low production number piece. Right now the greys may be just lumping it in with all the other stock they need to shift. They’re not going to have Submariner-like levels of them so perhaps prices may actually go up and sooner than you think.

Aren’t we due another ten percent or so price increase? That will affect grey prices.

Personally wait for AD. It's an incredible complication, plus you can get BOTH Jubilee and Oyster bracelet.

Same boat on Skydweller SS Blue.

The SkyD Blue is a low allocation and hard timepiece to obtain through an AD. You have to have high spend, a strong long-term relationship or just be in the right place at the right time. The ADs I have purchase history with have not come through unfortunately.

I got tired of waiting on ADs and bit the bullet this week when an opportunity arose through another jeweler (not a Rolex AD) that had just obtained one through a client trade. Watch was pre-owned, but still had some stickers intact and was a pristine full set. I purchased at $2.5k over retail, and feel that's within reason for this watch. First time I've paid over retail for a watch....ever!.

If watch prices at market-price continue to drop into 2024...I expect the SkyD Blue SS will still be a very hard timepiece to obtain through an AD or at retail pre-owned. Sorta like a SS Daytona. It could be that Rolex retail increases in 2024 as well..if any price adjustments occur. Given the complication, SkyD still seems low at retail price.

Incoming photo coming soon. It's a beautiful watch and I am 100% happy with my decision. I chose Oyster bracelet. (can always add Jubilee bracelet later, if desired)

PS - If you don't want the blue dial specifically, you can find white or black more easily at a lower price point near retail (AD or outside). I just have too many white and black dial watches.

Sky-Dweller: when to pull trigger?

On Moda. Blue Sky $22.8k. Pre owned.

Moda listing. I don’t follow sky dweller prices so do not know if it is good.

I would stick with your AD since they sound more encouraging. I doubt they get many of the exact configuration you want. Maybe one a year They have to take all the other SS, TTs and PMs with all the various dials. If you were flexible on the dial color, it would help your chances a lot with an AD. If after a few months' things look the same I would just buy one in the secondary market.

These are dropping weekly on Singapore as there are so many around. Here is an example at USD~20k. And I’m sure it’s negotiable by about 5%.

Check out 'Dec 2021 CHEAPEST LNIB Unpolished Rolex Skydweller Blue ref. 326934 Complete Full Set', available at S$26,850 on #Carousell https://carousell.app.link/WaYuF031jFb

Wait for your AD to come through. They basically said that it’s coming your way. You’re patient. It’s a great watch at MSRP. Not above.

This. The blue SkyD is on my wish list with my AD, and I'm willing to patiently wait. I never pay above msrp.

Prices are incredibly low on this piece at present imo. January is approaching and I believe Rolex often mark their prices up around this time? This model is incredibly hard to obtain at AD. If this goes much lower, then you can bet most orher SS will go below retail. I don’t think there’s much room left below tbh. Just my thoughts tho.
