1665
DW72 your dial is a Mk III. The other pic is of a Mk IV. Your watch looks very nice; lugs look fat. The dial looks like a perfect Mk IV dial in without patina. Does your triplock crown have a gold tint or is it just the photo? Here is a couple of pics of mine with some patina on the dial and hands.

Pretty Interesting...
I found this on http://www.horologist.com/rolex_crown.htm "Most later model Rolex crowns show the newer version of the crown emblem. What is important to note are the markings located under the crown. These markings will tell you if the crown on your watch is either a Twinlock or a Triplock crown. In addition to the type of crown will be a series of dots or as shown, a single line dash. These dots and dashes will tell you the metal content of the crown on your Rolex. The chart above explains these markings. The English to Spanish translation is shown above the chart." Acero is Spanish for Steel Oro amarillo means Yellow Gold Oro blanco means White Gold Platino means Platinum Coronas means Crowns |

I am still curious about that crown. Its not a gold crown covered in SS, is it?

I think its brass or some other metal capped with S.S, the newer crowns are one solid piece of whatever metal the watch is but practically hollow. Its explained further on the link.

I don't know what's up with that crown, but SS is not used for plating. Chrome is, but I never heard of anything being plated with SS.

I think the crown is fake. There is nothing to indicate that there is any genuine SS crown that was plated.
One-piece solid screw down crown with Rolex engraving One-piece screw-down crown The screw-down crown is an extremely important part of the watch. If it is not constructed properly, the watch will not be water-resistant. And for any watch to go past 10m of water-resistance, the screw-down crown must screw in perfectly. A one-piece screw-down crown refers to the construction of the crown. The Rolex emblem is carved out from one solid piece of stainless steel, exactly like the real thing. It is a very expensive process, and that is why on cheaper fake watches, the emblem is just glued on. |
