Permanent oyster link removed 14060m
Finally took it upon myself to remove one of the permanent links from my oyster bracelet so that the watch can sit properly on my small wrist.
Took about 30 minutes and a pair of pliers, link got destroyed.. can't really see how you could not destroy it. For all the people with small wrists out there wearing an old oyster bracelet who want a tighter fit, believe! |

Sorry to butt in. It looks like my car's engine repair was done by a salesman at a fish market.
Wouldn't it be better to let a professional do it?

I agree, sadly none of the watchmakers in my city were confident in performing this, since they never did it. And to be honest I don't know where I could easily find a watchmaker in my country who could do it since it's a niche thing to do.

AFAIK when you remove a permanent link, the link always gets a bit damaged no matter who does it.

You're probably right, I'm impatient and confident by nature and to be honest I thought it would be easier, I was surprised and a bit concerned when I found out how rigid it is (I even had to use a hammer and a knife to loosen it further), but it worked in the end and I'm happy with the result even though the process was a mess.

Well, I don't care...
Think of yourself as having a hornet's nest in your attic. One will call the fire brigade or another service that will professionally remove the cocoon, the other will throw a firecracker or a smoke grenade and that will solve the matter.

You've inspired me to do the same on my 16570. I have been using an aftermarket (Ginault) 6 digit sub bracelet with the OEM clasp since I bought the explorer. Couldn't bring myself to destroy the link. But it always killed me inside when I wore it because I knew I had a fake bracelet on. But you inspired me to get it done and it wasnt too bad. |

If you ever want to sell it you can always add a detachable link and it shouldn't impact resale value, in the end you have to wear it so that it brings you joy!! Enjoy it in good health!! |
