How do you ship out your Rolex when selling?

How do I ship out fully insuranced?
I live in the United States and I don't think Fedex insures the entire amount of the watch

USPS Registered Mail insures up to 50K. Downside is it can take well over a week to be delivered and there is spotty to no tracking while in transit.

Set up an account with IFS or Parcel Pro. Both are third party companies that provide insurance on your shipment. You print your FedEx or UPS shipping labels in your account. Properly package up your watch (they will provide instructions) and you are good to go.

FedEx and UPS are just the shipper, IFS or Parcel Pro are the insurance provider.

I use the insured label sent to me by takuya, Sohais, HQ, Jacek, DavidSW, etc., to ship my watch in for trade to those folks

If I’m selling to a shop or a dealer I use the insured label they provide. If I’m selling to an individual I only send USPS Registered Mail. It’s the safest method. They insure for up to 50K and they have a strict chain of custody. As I was told by a postmaster, “we don’t lose registered mail.” The chain of custody means that it takes longer, but honestly, who really needs a watch that quickly? Plus, if there are shenanigans, Postal Inspectors get involved and they are no joke. Postal fraud is a federal crime. Plus the rates are good.

Will UPS ship 1-2 day delivery and insured for $20k+?

I absolutely hated my recent experience with the USPS. I Insured for ~17k, was told my item from East Coast to West Coast would arrive in 5 days, it took 12 days with zero updates along the way. We thought it was lost and I opened a case to track it.

Fedx will only insure a non-business shipment for $1000 now. It makes no sense, if someone registers as a business they will ship overnight and insure, however they won’t ship and same package to the same location for 3x what they charge the business. I went online to calculate the shipping and insurance for my item only to be denied when dropping it off at the physical location.

I've used U.S.P.S. Registered mail. You have to make sure that you use the brown tape and it has to cover the entire package. Never had a problem with them.

There is no requirement to use brown tape with Registered (or other) shipments with the USPS...

Registered mail requires the package to be sealed with ink printable tape. The post office will stamp every tape joint with a marker so the package cannot be tampered with. Most "brown" tape is plastic and cannot hold an ink stamp. Special paper tape is required.

I've shipped 2 'Registered' items via the USPS in the last 2 months. All used regular 2" wide 3m clear tape to seal the package, (not cover the entire box). The package was stamped on all sides and the stamps were clearly visible. "Special paper tape" is not required. Rolex has their own requirements when shipping an item to a RSC.

The 1000% answer is that Fedex (in the U.S.) will only insure an item for a max of $1000 for personal shipments. More than $1000 insurance requires a business account....

Glad you got away with improperly sealing your package with clear tape! Many offices that follow the USPS rules below will deny to ship this way.
3.6Sealing
The mailer must securely seal envelopes. Paper or cellulose strips or wax or paper seals must not be placed over the intersections of flaps of letter-size envelopes where the postmark impressions are made. Packages must be sealed with mucilage or glue or with plain paper or cloth tape. Packages containing currency or securities may not be sealed exclusively by paper strips, but must first be sealed securely with mucilage or glue. Large envelopes (flats) that are completely sealed and that also have paper strips or paper tape across the intersections of the flaps may be considered packages for sealing requirements. To be used on registered mail, tape must visibly damage the envelope or wrapper if removed and must absorb the ink in a postmark impression.

Perhaps overkill, but aside for insuring for the appropriate sum (I'm UK based so for me its Royal Mail Special Delivery), I video record the entire packaging process to evidence that I've taken all reasonable steps to protect the contents.

Parcel Pro is the absolute worst insurer for paying out on lost or stolen packages. They will do everything they can to not pay on a claim. If FedEx investigates a missing or stolen package, and the carrier that delivers it has a signed signature that it was signed for by the recipient, Parcel Pro will not pay out on the claim.

Needless to say, FedEx drivers leave packages on the wrong door steps or misdeliver packages all the time without proper signatures. Normally what happens when a signature is required, the driver leaves the package and completes the signature himself.

Don't ever reply on Parcel Pro to pay out on a claim.
