Incoming Sub

So the wife and I went into our local AD on Saturday afternoon to look at the new Omega Speedmaster that is expected to release soon. The AD didn't have it on display. I saw my SA in the Rolex side of the store and decided to go over and have a chat with him.

After chatting with him for a few minutes and asking if there was a chance that I could get a Sprite, I was offered this beautiful Starbucks!

I already have a Sub that my wife got me for our 10yr anniversary a couple of years ago but have always wanted a Hulk or Kermit. She loves the look of the green bezel.

Needless to say, we went home Sprite-less but got some Starbucks instead.

Thank you! It's almost surreal because 99.999% of the time the SA tells you that they don't have anything available. Then the stars, planets, and moons align and you're at the right place, at the right time, and something incredible happens!

I've only gotten a call from an AD once. That was for an Omega Seamaster James Bond edition. All other watches were purchased either grey or the scenario mentioned above.

I've been fortunate this year with 2 walk in surprises. Looking forward to many more!

Thank you! I'm certainly no VIP, but my wife and I did get to enter the coveted VIP room to wait for the new edition. We felt fancy

I find it interesting that the AD approach to offering watches seems to be: you express an interest in something and rather than give you exactly what you want (even if they have it), they give you something close but slightly different. Like you asked for a Sprite and they gave you a Starbucks. Other people ask for something in WG and it gets offered in YG, etc. I guess that’s to make you buy that offered thing and then keep you on the hook to still chase that thing you wanted in the first place.

Wait...what...? You walked into your local AD to look at Omega's...and your SA offered you a Starbucks/Kermit/LV...? With zero wait time?
I have purchase history with my AD and I have waited for longer than I care to admit for this reference

All frustration aside...massive congratulations!!!

Thank you! I have purchase history with this AD. Four watches before this last purchase. I bought different brands from the usual...Omega Seamaster James Bond, Tudor GMT, Submariner, Batgirl, and now Starbucks.

I think it helps that you buy from different brands that they carry. I guess it shows that you're open to buying and shows you're potentially a long term customer instead of a "hit and run" kinda customer.

I have to say, each watch I did buy was something that I was specifically looking for. I didn't buy what was offered just to have a relationship with the AD.

For the most part, this is probably true. Like you said, keeps you coming back for more

I agree! It's better than not getting the opportunity to buy a watch at retail prices. You can always say "no thanks" to what is offered and continue to wait for what you want.

Obviously, I wouldn't just buy anything they offered. It's gotta be something that I would want.
