Why my Yg daytona turning red and black spot bracelet

Hi,
I noticed today something strange, one of my non removable link turned red and black on my YG gold daytona. The color changed. The watch is 2 year old so basically brand new.
Any help why it is happening ?
Thank you

Do you wear it every day or is it more of a safe queen? If it spends a lot of time in the safe it’s oxidizing.

That's oxidization from the fire retardant material inside the safe.

I'd like to hear more about this.

What brand/type of safe is this in?
How long has the watch been stored in said safe?
How is the watch placed in safe...exposed or in factory box...watch roll?

Any details you are willing to share are appreciated. Want to learn.

Most interesting post I have seen in a long time

Learned something new. Thank You! Anything I should worry about with SS watches? I have a few redundant ones that sit in safe.

Watch is stored in Rolex service leather case. It is not in a ''safe''. It was inside the leather Rolex case for a few months, but I removed the watch from time to time for a few minutes.
I don't understand why it started doing this.

this is common with PM pieces, especially when you tend to not wear them for a while. i have the same thing and it's not a safe queen either and i've seen similar threads in the patek forums

Normal, just a little tarnished, toothbrush and soap with warm water will remove it

A lite rub with a yellow Sunshine polishing cloth is the only way I know to remove tarnish and staining.

You stated earlier the watch is a "safe queen".

Can you clarify if the watch is stored inside a safe/vault? If so, for how long?

Service cases aren't airtight and they can still be exposed to humid air within the safe.

No, you won't run into any issues with SS.

The fire retardant naturally attracts moisture due to its chemical make up, which is why safe companies recommend keeping a dehumidifier inside. It's more common with entry level or gun safes. Not so much with the more expensive safes geared towards jewelry.

Rolex advertises their metal as tarnish proof, but you can't escape the natural chemistry of the metals. For example, the copper they add to "Everose" will naturally tarnish and quicker with improper storage. Same thing applies for yellow gold too.

No, it's not in a safe vault.
By ''safe queen'' I meant I did not wear the watch for a long period of time.

All these years we have been asking if it’s safe to wear a Rolex in Barcelona or London and we should have been asking if it’s safe to keep the Rolex in a safe?!?!

Got it. It can happen to all PM like Huncho mentioned.

I would also recommend cleaning the watch (soap/water) prior to storage if you aren't going to wear it for an extended period of time. The oils from your body can increase the tendency for tarnishing especially if they're left to sit. PM is a lot more finicky compared to SS.

Rolex's 18k yellow gold (75% Au) contains in almost equal amounts 10-15% silver and copper. Especially copper tends to oxidize quickly when exposed to the right humidity/temperature/poor ventilation conditions, such as the ones typically found inside a safe. A suitable electrolyte forms around the copper surface leading to oxidation. Rolex's modern Everrose and white (or grey) gold alloys contain trace amounts of platinum which helps a little bit prevent oxidation but their yellow gold alloy does not as far as I know. This is why I berlieve it is more common to see oxidized areas on yellow gold Rolex timepieces.

Does it help to vacuum seal before putting it in the safe?

Some years ago I sought help at a local major jewelry store for my tarnished YG GMT. Their entire staff drooled over the watch for about 30 minutes, then offered to send it to an RSC for a $400 handling fee, which I declined. Soon after, while on vacation, I took the watch to an AD, and they fully restored its beauty in about 15 minutes at no cost.

Rolex have built in now on all there watches especially those bought and kept in safes and not worn.First it starts with tiny spots then if not worn the watch will self destruct after a one week period of first spot notice.

They used a cloth with some type of white cream and rubbed it all over the watch, but mostly on the tarnished areas. My impression was they had routinely done this many times before. Over several years later, the watch never showed any tarnish.

It's dirty, clean it.

Almost any jewelry tarnish remover, clean rinse and wipe down with a microfiber cloth will make it look like new. You can use a soft brush to get the cream into the corners and edges as well as to rinse those areas.

The only thing that can remove patina is a light polish unfortunately.
