Thoughts on New or “Used”?

Hello all! First time posting “I think”

My AD just called me saying he’s got my Cookie Monster (126619LB) in and waiting for me to come in and buy. While EXCITED! I can buy a 2023 used for about $10k less. What is the advantage of buying it new at this point?

Thoughts on New or “Used”?

Not much, if it’s from last year, and is in perfect condition. The only difference is about a year of warranty is gone, and you will miss the AD experience, if that matters to you. BTW, there are several listed as brand new, on EBay.

Welcome!

Two advantages to new ...

1.Guaranteed (without a shadow of a doubt) provenance and authenticity.
2. Establishing a spend history giving you leverage for other "harder to get" models.

It's up to you whether that's worth 10K, especially with trusted TRF sellers guaranteeing authenticity as well. Good luck with your decision and please post pics!

Get the 2023 for $10,000 less.
The only difference is 1 less year of warranty.
Nothing will cost $10,000 to repair if any repairs were even needed.

I’d get the cheaper option as long as the condition is good

Damn, $10k is a good chunk of change.....If it was maybe a $500-$1500 difference, well that's one thing. But $10k is whole other watch (or a couple other watches if from another brand) you can get.

Yes that was my thought. I’m even seeing 2023’s for 8-10k less. I’ve just been told that if you “pass” on an item on your list then you basically say goodbye to the relationship. Not sure if that relationship is worth 8-10k!

I would not spend $10K extra to get it from an AD.

Those were my thoughts. Don’t want to turn down an item from my list with an AD. It’s my first through him. Still don’t think it’s worth $8-10k though.

I’ve been told if you turn down an item from your wish list, you basically can expect to not get a call back for any future options.

This may be a stupid question but, do dealers sometimes sell for less than retail?

Thanks everyone! I had the same thoughts. I’m not wanting to spend that much more just because it’s with AD but been told if you turn down your first wish list item, you basically won’t get any preference after that.

I can’t see the point in spending 8-10k more for the relationship though!

This might be a stupid question but… will a dealer ever sell for less than retail?

Nothing is stopping you from asking for a reasonable discount. You don't get what you don't ask for, IMO. If you do say "well, I can get it for $10k cheaper on eBay/C24/grey market," I have a feeling you'd shoot yourself in both feet with that AD & they'll never call you again.

Yes. Five years ago you could get 20% off pretty easy on WG sub.

Tough one - but I would always go new as I wouldn’t trust it is authentic any other way.

If the one at 10k less is unpolished and mint then yes I would go for it

I would pass on the AD since I consider the “AD experience” a negative and would pay extra to avoid it!!!

Not 100% sure, but I think discounts are still rare and I’d be shocked if it was more than 5%. It won’t be $10k.

Unless you’re planning on building a spend history with this AD, I would def pass if the other is in good shape and from a trusted seller.

Great watch. Husband loves his. I would save the $10,000.

The only way i would buy at AD (assuming you dont have to worry about the authenticity of the 2023 one), is if they bundled something hard to get that you want.

"Sure i will over pay for the WG sub, if i get the white dial daytona - today"

For 10K, I would buy used all day if from a reliable seller and in good unpolished condition.

Last year I purchased the Omega Panda Moonshine gold used. It was 6 months old all boxes, papers, etc. I saved $12K over new. I have zero regrets. The precious metal watches make the most sense to buy used. Especially when dealing with a trusted seller.

I think a $10K premium to pay for a new grey watch over an AD MSRP.

Would never pay AD MSRP if new grey was available for $10K less.

I agree with others who said buying from the AD is only viable if bundled with a SS GMT or Daytona.
