Brother's GRNR

So in the last week of Jan, my two brothers and I were at an AD in another city in our state (we all have kids that live there and it's where I went to undergrad) and we were shopping at the largest watch AD there (Patek, Rolex/Tudor, Cartier, IWC, GS). I had just gotten a TT CHNR from the AD in my home city after a 4 month wait, so I wasn't really doing anything more than looking, but my brother really wanted a BLNR Jubilee, but saw and tried on the GRNR and ended up registering his interest on both. Anyways, got a call Friday (two months on) that they had a GRNR in and it was his if he wanted it. No purchase history. He of course said yes, paid for the watch over the phone and was driving down to pick it up tomorrow.

Interestingly we were at the AD where I got my CHNR (and a few others) in my home city and they pretty much said no dice on a GMT, but we'll take your name, and invited him to "order" a DJ configured however he liked it, requiring a deposit, but giving him approximately a three month horizon. He took them up on this and ordered one.

I thought this to be a very interesting development and wondered if this was just a fluke, or how things are gonna go. Anyway, he is a lurker here and hopefully he will post soon.

Perhaps the 2nd AD sells all thier GMT's to VIP's or thier local grey dealer.. but the other AD sells them the proper way; to thier list of interest or to nice people with no history they think deserve it (like your bro).

Sounds like what happens at a lot of ADs. If he buys a DJ from them, then he’ll be allowed to go on the wait list for a GMT. Pretty standard operating procedure, unfortunately. If you are wondering about the ability to order a DJ, with a deposit, Rolex keeps changing that policy. They put it in place for a while, then halt it, then reimplement it. Weird, but true. The Datejust is still the most popular Rolex, bar none, and therefore, probably manufactured in the greatest numbers.
