Sweet Sixteen Birthday

Man, there must be another world out there.

Recently, while overseas I got to watching MTV which had all these real life stories. Sorry I was bored and couldn't get onto the forum because of happenings.

Anyway, there was a show called 'sweet sixteen' and kids in the USA would have birthday parties with literally 7-800 guests. Their parents in one instance flew the young lady to Paris to buy a dress. She found one which was $5000, and another $2,000 to have it altered. Yes this was just one dress for one sixteenth birthday.

The father then bought his daughter a new off the showroom floor 5 series BMW to drive to school.

And people say it is extravagant to buy a Rolex which will last several lifetimes

Anyway, the mind boggles at what these birthday parties end up costing. I don't have anything against them, but wow it was amazing.

My daughter had this programme on and I just wanted to climb into the TV and set upon the spoiled brat's parents with a piece of two by four.

Hey, that was me. Your avatar, just before it turns into TRF, looks like a Portuguese Man o' War. Ouch!

I've seen a few of those episodes a few years ago. I can't believe how spoiled and piggish those people look. I'm working two jobs and living under the poverty level. And I save, save, save. While they spend, spend, spend. It's a little depressing seeing shows like that, when I consider how my life has turned out to be.

Those shows almost incite one to violence. I don't come from a poor family, but my parents certainly didn't buy me a wicked party for my 16th birthday...not that I really cared to be honest. Spoiled brats: All they do is whine and complain.

As Dr. B above said, I too feel sorry for their future spouse(s).

This is sad...my parents never "gave" me anything. I always had to earn it. I paid for my own college and grad school. My husband and I paid for our own wedding.

But, I am happy that I earned everything I have in my life, because it makes everything seem sweeter. I know that with hard work, I can have anything. Unfortunately these kids may not understand the work ethic.

Ya, I've watched bits and pieces of that show. Totally unreal. These 16 year old kids are FAR beyond spoiled, to an unhealthy level. Imagine what they would want for thier 21st birthday if Daddy bought them a brand new $50,000 BMW 5 series for her 16th? What will they buy her then, a Bentley ? Come on, give me a BREAK !!! You've got family's that are barely able to survive and eat, let alone pay thier bills during these hard times, and these people are throwing money away on thier kids like it's toilet paper.
Man, I'm definitely in the WRONG profession . . . . . .

Yes most of those kids are ridiculous worthless egomaniacs however I was once very pleasantly surprised. There were two girls, best friends, who shared a party. All gifts were for charity and the kids didn't make you want to strangle their parents. It was just two happy kids having a good time planning their own event and being silly.
