1940s Ladies Rolex 4323

Hi... I am new to this forum and I am looking to buy my first Rolex which is a vintage ladies 4323 model.

I am told by the seller that he cannot find any serial numbers on the watch and it is possible that for this series of watches they were no serial numbers. The watch is from the 1940s. The watch looks legit to me. I would be grateful for any advice to guide me on this. I was able to upload only one photo unfortunately.

I wouldnt doubt it. It wont be like a modern oyster case with the seriel number between the lugs.

I don't know about the serial number, but the movement has a US import code, which is interesting. The maker's mark on the case is for Jean Humbert & Co. S.A., if I'm reading it correctly. The dial appears to be re-painted. Other than that, I don't really doubt that it's legit, but obviously a watch like this isn't terribly valuable.

Thanks very much Dan. Very interesting comment re the US Import code and the makers mark. Could you tell me which is the US Import code and which is the makers mark (are you referring to the engraved 'R'?... I thought that was the old style of Rolex).

I think Dan is referring to the ROW mark on the movement as the US Import Mark and the numbers in the hammerhead stamp as the case maker's mark.

If this is number 126 then, according to one of the reference websites, it is for Humbert and Co. as Dan has stated, but I'm not sure what the middle number is.

Whatever the number is, the hammerhead or hammer without a handle mark indicates that the case was made in Switzerland, but outside of Geneva.

So it looks to be a Swiss made case fitted with a movement designated for sale in the United States, indicating that it was imported into the US as a complete Swiss made watch rather than a Swiss movement fitted into a locally made case (as was often done to reduce the import taxes).

Do the uncentered logo & the marks without a serial number inside the case indicate the caseback was a reject?

There is another on eBay whose caseback looks more normal.
