Vintage Datejust 1601 enquiry
Hello, this is my first time posting a thread in this forum.
I actually stumbled upon this datejust 1601 which ive found locally. However, Im not sure whether this is unique or not.. I have been trying to look for similar datejust 1601 with the same dial but I havent found one yet. So, I appreciate any comments or discussions on this dial and whether the dial is original or it is a frankenstein watch. Please refer to the picture attached, the 9 and 6 hour mark have different indices which I have never seen in other vintage datejust 1601 dials. Hence, I have no idea whether this is a legitemate dial, but the watch is authentic. Thank you. |

There are many dial variants, the watch looks ok as far as I can tell from one photo. The lume in the hands looks white and the lume on the dial is darkened, so the hands may be replacements. But really you should post better photos.

As Dan mentioned, so many dial (and hand) variations you can find with Datejusts; some much more common than others. Here is an example of the 6/9 markers like the one you found.

Initially looks ok to me. The very dark lume plots look a little out of place considering the rest of the dial looks quite clean. Agree that the hands are pretty likely replacements.
Having said that, I’m no expert, have myself just acquired a 1601 from ‘73 here in the UK. Bracelet is a later Oyster from 2003. First post on here so pics will have to wait Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
