More information about a used Rolex Datejust (image included)

Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a used Rolex. I'm going in person to look at it later today, but wanted to some more background information about the model as I'm fairly new to Rolexes. It seems like the reference number for this model is 116243.

My questions are:
Is this a factory model, or is it aftermarket/modified?
I'm looking at it later today. What should I look at and inspect?
What is a reasonable price range for this model (both with and without box/papers).

Additionally, any general information about this model would be very helpful.

that looks like a 5 digit, not a 6 digit (116243). 6 digits have polished lugs and that one has brushed lugs

the bezel looks well done but it's a pretty blurry picture and i'm not enough of an expert on 5 digits to know if it's factory. you would want to check the bracelet and see how much stretch is on it

what are they asking for it?

I've just received the image so far, no price. I'll be going in today to get the number and look at it in person.

As mentioned, this is not a 116234, it is pre-98.

The watch appears to have been cleaned up and refinished reasonably well. It is unlikely that this model would have come originally with the diamond bezel.

Good looking example. Any proclaimed service should come with actual verification of service, or I would assume otherwise.

Keep in mind it’s over 25 years old, so I would not buy it if not recently serviced. Otherwise, you must factor in another grand, or so. At that age, they may want to change out the hands, so be careful. A service could be more than you’d think.

You need better pics to confirm everything is legit (including bracelet).
