Is the view clearer or just me...
Is Rolex using a new anti-reflective coating?
The dials look super sharp without any reflection. I've noticed on my new Explorer that the dial appears very clear.

I hadn’t thought much about my new explorer being clearer, but it does appear to pick up less glare than i can remember.

I put my SD43 in for a service recently, and they changed the glass to AR and it’s very different, better.

Agreed. Beautiful pair of watches! Not sure about the coating, but nice shot.

Yes, thank you, so it isn't just me.
There does appear to be a difference in dial clarity and I believe Rolex are using a new and improved anti reflective coating on the under side of the sapphire crystal. I've notice it too on my Explorer (1) 40mm, this is so anti-reflective at angles it is unbelievable!!!

I read Rolex made the transition to AR-coated crystals (underside) in ~2021 or 2022. I personally purchased an Exp 36 in 2022, and an OP 36 in 2023 and both appear to have AR coating. Huge difference from my 2018 BLRO which does not.

Gorgeous GMTs. I love the TT especially. Great mix of vintage and modern. :-)
It seems that the photo may have had some post-processing to enhance the clarity of the dial. Regardless, great picture. |

Well guess it’s a 2018 then it’s definitely out of warranty so can’t be any later. And it wasn’t new when I bought it. Maybe I have the ultra rare first coronet dial ever made!

I mention it in my review of the Submariner. The difference is stark. I definitely like the new AR crystals.

Yeah, the new inside AR coating is great, definitely noticed a difference as soon as I got my 126610.

the AR crystals are a huge improvement! i actually had traded my 114060 Submariner for the 124060 Submariner specifically because of the way the dial looks with the AR crystal. glad its only on the underside of the crystal so you dont have to worry about scratching the coating

My 2020 TT Sub is significantly clearer than my 2014 YM and 2017 SD43. The AR treatment makes the dial pop. As I like to keep things original, I won't be changing the crystal on my older pieces when service is due, unless there's no choice.

I will be asking Rolex to change the crystal when I have to service a pre-2022 production watch.
