16610 93250 Flip Lock Clasp Scratches

Hi all,

Firstly wanted to say a long time time lurker this forum has been invaluable for a first time Rolex owner - so thanks everyone!!

I had a question about my 16610 flip lock clasp. The bracelet is a 93250 model. I recently got the watch sized and notice the latch that locks the buckle/bracelet in place was a little loose (when closed the top latch would rattle a little). So I took it to a watch repair place and they went and tightened the clasp/latch portion.

After they did that the latch was SUPER hard to open and when I did get it open, it looked like they had bent the side ends and scratched the side. ON top of that when opening on closing - on the side of the clasp/"buckle" there now is two streaks from what I imagine is the clasp scratching against latch closing.

What should I do here? Should get the latch loosened OR is this normal for this bracelet/reference?

Pics for reference

They bent the Flip Lock, probably on purpose, and that makes it even worse. I would not trust them to fix it.

Would see if you can find a competent watchmaker in your area, or you could send it off.

Yeah it's bent but they scratch the clasp anyway.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I am gutted - I literally just got this watch brand new and then this happens.

The issue I'm facing right now is this repair shop is supposedly highly reputable and has good reviews. I texted them the issue above and they said come back in to adjust it.

Should I go somewhere else instead? If anyone has any good recs in the Dallas area please let me know.

Thanks everyone for the input

Gotcha, so you're saying the scratches I see on the side are normal for that area? For this specific type of clasp

Meant to reply to this directly (apologies still figuring out the forum)

There are two “scratches” or rub marks in your pic. The one that lines up with the hole is just the normal rub mark from the “bump” on the inside of the Flip Lock that engages the hole. The rub mark next to it is where they bent the corner of the Flip Lock inwards and is abnormal.

It’s a relatively easy fix so I wouldn’t sweat it too much, but I would under no circumstance allow the shop that messed it up touch it again.

I’m of the opinion that a shop gets one chance and one chance only. Mess it up and you’re dead to me.

This is sound and solid advice. Thanks for putting me at ease. The rub mark where they bent the corner is visible on both sides (left and right) - so what you're saying makes complete sense. Thank you so much.

I will avoid that shop and find somewhere else. Much appreciated

RSC in Dallas can fix it. I suspect they’ll just replace the Flip Lock and give that side of the buckle a quick polish. I’m sure there are others in town that could fix it for cheaper and without replacing parts, but if it were me I’d let RSC do it.

This is more correct. Yes, the flip lock is over bent. But the nub on the flip lock will rub on it's way to engage the hole in clasp. And yeah, that is extremely crude work. It's spring steel; finger pressure can tighten it up.

That is correct. Those are not scratches but by design!! Rolex designed it this way and I remember I almost had a heart attack when I first saw it.

A simple common sense fix that you should have done by yourself. Really, could you not work out how that simple clasp worked and done that (more carefully) yourself?

Perhaps you are being a little harsh on the OP.
Whilst many of us have basic mechanical skills, there are also many that are not blessed with such talents.
