Price Survey on 312

With all of this conversation of people buying and some of them flipping the 312, it makes me wonder if the discount was deep enough for people to make a small profit or is it b/c the watch just did not work out for them, hence the purpose of this poll. It is hard enough to get this watch....not as hard as getting a SS Daytona in the height of it's demand but I was still able to get a nice discount off of mine which was brand new.

Whether we gotten a discount or not, in the end, I'm sure those who kept the 312 was truely in love with it.

Sorry guys/gals, my sequency is a little off so this is what the poll supposed to look like since I don't know of a way to edit the poll:

- I’ve bought mine at MSRP
- I’ve bought mine at MSRP but they gave me some freebies (e.g. extra straps, etc.)
- I’ve gotten a discount of 1% to 5% off
- I’ve gotten a discount of 6% to 10% off
- I’ve gotten a discount of 11% to 15% off
- I’ve gotten a discount of 16% to 20% off
- I’ve gotten a discount of more than 20% off
- I’ve bought mine pre-own and gotten a discount of 1% to 10%
- I’ve bought mine pre-own and gotten a discount of 11% to 20%
- I’ve bought mine pre-own and gotten a discount greater than 20%

I sold mine for $6500.00 BNIB and the proffit I made was well worth than keeping the watch.

There is always going to be another one.

Another question you may want to ask is if the watch was purchased from an AD or a Grey Dealer.

Saw a post now on another forum where the guy is flipping the 312 and he hasnt received the watch from the AD yet !! He did promise to provide pics the moment he actually receives the watch from the AD. Thats now making a few "cheap" dollars.

I believe the watch should go from the AD,at the best possible discount, to someone that really wants one.

More than 15% off of the 312 from an AD is suspect to me. I know some long time Paneristi who had a hard time getting this much off and they've all bought many, many Panerais from the dealer I used. I consulted many other dealers and 15 was about the limit.

I'm not fulling doubting it, but perhaps those who did get 15% off or more are the flippers.

I'd pay full retail on this piece. It's that nice.

It really depends on the time and place versus the relationship. I know of this personally since my family and friends have all gone through my mother-n-law and bought 15 rolexes over the years from one AD. After realizing that the discount was not increasing (average between 15% to 20%) with the volume of transaction (no matter what we tried), it led me to call other ADs.

I have gotten just as good as a discount and sometimes more from other ADs....sometime even for very first transactions. Funny things happens when you introduce competition into the equation which was exactly what I have done. Called one AD...got one discount price and called another to see if they could beat it. Heck, I got even a better deal then all of the offering on ebay and grey dealers (here and from other sites). I couldn't believe it myself until the watch arrived....and they threw in a extra strap to boot. For me, a good relationship only increase the chance that you'll be first in line for new offerings and/or you'll be attended when you show up. Otherwise, competition has been my best friend.

After spending well over $60k worth of watches, you would think I would learned this along time ago

I normally don't care how much of a discount I can get as I'm not a penny pincher - but this time around I knew that guys were getting 10 to 15% off of the 312 so I wanted the same. Having seen the watch in person, though, I'd pay retail.

The funny thing is that with most of the other brands I can get a pretty serious discount if I want it (based on the # of referrals I give this place - but they don't carry Panerai). This AD refuses to carry Panerai for a variety of reasons that could spur a whole new thread.

Agreed. If it wasn't for this economy, this watch might spur retail only prices with no discount. Based on the poll, someone actually gotten 20% or more on a new 312....wished I gotten his/her skills! LOL

Thank you all who have participated and please keep it coming! This type of information give us consumer better leverage and understanding of what we may want to spend if others are able to get a better deal. I know this depends on the location of the ADs and some grey dealers but I'm sure they have clients who are out-of-state too.

I couldn't agree more on the penny pincher comment. I rather count savings in the hundreds which alway seems to be the case when we're talking Rolex and PAMs.

Getting the best discount from an AD is:

1) A fine art
2) Luck

Take your pick !!

Nothing to do with the skills. Something to do with the ECONOMY. They need to moved their watches. They have overhead to be paid. I know a Panerai dealer that sold 2 watches in one week and Panerai is not the only brand they sell.

Not sure if that's is everywhere. There is still a lot of ADs who would not budge on the price of the 312.

From this poll, the common discount is now 10-20% on a very popular current model thats relatively scarce. Now flashback to better times and getting an extra strap was considered great !!Its a buyers market,at the moment.

Secondary marketprices on illustrious models like the 203/127/217/249/232 etc. have also come down.We had a GTG in May 2008.The 203 then went for a minimum of $150k,its dropped to around 95-100k now ...127 went for $23.5-26k,recently saw one for $17.5K.249 went for $14.5-15K thats down to $11-11.5k

To end on a positive..... its not a bad time to buy a Panerai.
