Going 116500 Over 126500

Going grey for the Daytona sometime in the future but after seeing all the references in person, I might actually be leaning toward the 116500? Black dial most likely—insanely sleek! There was a real symmetry to it.

That being said they all looked great but just relying on my gut reaction to make a decision and was curious what everyone here thought.

It’s totally subjective. There is no bad choice.
Both the 11 & 12 series Daytona are equally stunning, only you can decide which you want live with. That being said, I personally prefer the 12 in white but the 11 in black. I own the latter which i confess probably makes me biased(!) for the black 11, but I love the masculinity and “understatedness” it offers.
Good luck with your decision, be sure to share pics when you get it.

I recently went grey to get a 11 in white. Price diff was only 2-3k for the 12, but I prefer the white in the 11. I do prefer the 12 in black though.

There’s a shed load of Daytona threads 116/126 of late … white dial is a choice of mine, but the black dial certainly looks stunning in the 126 ..

I too chose the 11 over the 12. It’s hard to go wrong either way.

Theres no bad choice when it comes to the 11 or 12 series Daytona. For me I just love the chunk of ceramic of the 116500 bezel, pretty much every watch with a bezel has a steel ring surrounded it. Plus I'm going to guess the 126500 will run for anywhere 10 to 15 years before any update which makes the 7 year production run on the 116500 a short one.

I like the case side curvature of the 11 vs the 12

I thought the 126500 “fixed” the asymmetric lugs

I have the 12 black and really really love it. I now barely wear the LV but I digress.

Honestly, the 126500 has really grown on me and I think if I was dropping the $$ on the grey market (which is my most likely scenario because I can't even get a low level watch from a local AD) I'd pay the extra money and get the 126500 over the 116500.

That being said, BOTH are amazing and I would be over the moon to own either one. I would just want a complete set and a watch that was in excellent shape.

Best of luck and I hope you get what you want!

The 11 in black is a really great watch and fits well on the wrist. It is very versatile in my opinion, more so than the white dial. I owned both, and still own black. Enjoy!

I too recently decided to bite the bullet and go grey for a Daytona. My decision was made easier after trying on the 12 series at the AD and not personally liking the updates that were made. I prefer the smaller asymmetrical lugs, the fat hour markers and the chunky bezel. I managed to find a nice 116500ln white dial that was unworn and fully stickered and I have not regretted my decision at all. I got the watch I wanted and since its discontinued going grey was my only option.

can't agree more, 116500 is the real symmetry.

Why I decided on the 126500 White:

- In 2006 I bought and still own a 2006 White dial 116520 Daytona ( I wanted the Black, but at the time Black were the favoured dial!). However, I gifted this to by better half and she has been wearing this for the last 14yrs... it looks so much better on her than me.

- I got the call for a Black 126500 end 2023, delighted and collected. Proudly wore it... however as soon as the light started to fade so too does the legibility of the black-polished hands on the black background.

- In July'24 I traded out of my 126500 Black into a White (with a slight uplift in cost to change), and I couldn't be happier. Perfect combo for legibility, contrast and a true ownership experience of the much lauded 'Daytona' - IMO of course!

- I never saw the value of the 116500's over the 116520's as there is so little change beween the two... Black dial is essentially just a Bezel swap, the White dial obviously has Black chapter rings and a Bezel change.

The 126500 in either Black or White are a true evolution given they deliver on changes to the WHOLE package - new Case, movement, bezel, proportions, refinement.

The 116500 I can see as being the one less desired - The 116520 is the first 'In-House' Daytona and has a beautiful SS bezel... the 116500 just had a bezel swap, the 126500 gives you he best of both 116520 & 116500.

If you're over 40 and have actual Man sized wrists ;) then go for the 126500 White :)

Do a simple poll search and you can find 126500 winning over 116500 in both dial colours..both models are nice by the way

I'd go 11 for white, 12 for black, at least that is my conclusion after trying them both.

But then again, this is my preference, whatever you go for will be great!

I was bent on the 116 a while ago, but the 126 started to grow on me and I now think I would get the 126 instead.

Anyway, get the watch you want not what everybody wants.

The new Daytonas have a nice symmetrical case shape, the ring is very nice. Unfortunately, the dials of all the references, steel, gold, platinum, are wrong. The white of the steel is less white, almost cream, the blue ice is less intense, the dials of the gold models lack the contrast of the spheres. This explains why enthusiasts prefer discontinued models.

Bought my Black Daytona in 126, bought my Sub in 126, bought my bluesy in 116 and currently seriously considering buying a hulk which is obviously a 116.

I wear all 3 regularly and in all honesty don't really notice a difference unless I am intentionally comparing them. Solo on the wrist I am unaware of a difference in look or wearability.

Your not gonna be comparing them constantly, go for the one that you like or has better price. Great watches.

12 series wears incredibly well the few times I've been able to try it on. I ultimately like it better than the 11. The dial looks a lot more refined. At first, I definitely preferred the 11--but I've been converted. Can't wait to get a 126500 one day.
