Question on being in the "waiting list"

My wife got the call for a 77350SR after putting her name 2 years ago and not really bothering to follow up on it.

So being a good husband that I am, I decided to tag along to the AP house. She purchased her watch and then registered interest for a 15551OR.

When the bracelet was getting resized for my wife, the sales lady asks am I interested in anything. I said yeah of course the Jumbo blue dial - unsurprisingly shot down. Then she says may be she can put my name down for 15510 black dial. I say of course, that is also really nice, thank you and typed my details into the iPad.

My question is:
1) Is that it and I am now on the waiting list? I just have to wait however many years to be allocated a 15510? It would be super to have a 15510 at retail price but I am not desperate enough to buy a Code 11.59 to ensure it happens.

2) Is there non-monetary hoop that I can and should jump through to make the allocation comes faster (I am assuming that I am now in the list or this is the wrong thinking)?

Much appreciated in advance for your comments.

I think you’re in a good position. You have purchase history plus the SA had mentioned black dial 15510 so it’s definitely doable. I don’t think you will have to wait for years for it, probably few months.

I introduced a friend of mine to AP House who wanted a 15510. He got offered a black dial 6 months later. That was last year and if anything I’d say things were easier. I’m nobody in the grand scheme of things AP wise so it’s not like I had any sway.

I’ll say the same to you as I said to him, keep in contact with the SA. Follow up occasionally and show some interest. Not every 5 minutes, but the odd what’s app message or email can’t hurt and can more likely help.

Question on being in the "waiting list"

You’re going to get it. Probably about like waiting for a submariner- if I had to guess I’d say 3-6 months. Wouldn’t be surprised for you to get it by Christmas.
You’ll probably get the jumbo too, they’re not as impossible as you think.

From your posts, you clearly think the AP market has tanked? Or is tanking? Anything now relatively easy to get?

Definitely think doable in 6 -8 months or less. Good start to purchase a two tone ladies piece. You have asked for a very nice watch but nothing crazy. Would recommend give it some time, follow-up in 2-3 months and ask if you can try one on again as you're very interested.

Good luck!

I think a black 15510st is a reasonable second watch after buying a ladies RO, and I think you should be allocated relatively fast.

I was allocated a green ROC as second watch after my wife’s RO (did also have a 15500st I got on grey). I did travel every few months to go see them and was allocated in just over a year.

Thank you for everyone's opinions/insights. I am concluding that it's not an impossible for me to get the black 15510 that I filled in my details for. I am assuming that the human SA was the gatekeeper that decides which watch I can register interest for.

An esoteric detail is that my wife's 77350SR purchase and registration of interest for 15551OR are under her name and my registration of interest for 15510 was under my own name and presumably a new account. I don't know whether that is going to work against me or not. I suppose I should follow up once in a while.

EDIT: Also thank you for the other discussions so I know what to ask for in the future as 2nd watch (at the risk of looking too far ahead).

If the SA's were paying attention the accounts should linked in AP's CRM. You can just check with them to make sure.

I was in the waiting list for 7 years before receiving my first AP (an ROC) from the Boutique.

Curious what level of interaction you had with them over the 7 year period?

Was it register interest and then 7 years later they called you? Or you went to them x number of times over the years?

To be honest, there was very minimal interaction. There has been a high turnover of SA and a new person tend to text me whenever one left. I have only visited the Boutique once meeting a SA to give him my name card and that was it.

Question for my curiousity, much appreciated if someone can tell me. If I was a nobody walking in with 0 purchase history, what would I be offered? Some Codes, low popularity ROOs?

First off it depends where you are in the world. I feel Europe right now has the best chance to pick up watches as a walk in. Especially in the summer time. And you’re looking at Codes and ROO’s The displays are full of pieces worldwide to try on and look at so that’s a great thing for everyone.

The US is still tight on pieces here as we are still chugging along, the market has slowed some but with AP now making a lot more RO 38mm and under women’s and unisex pieces the supply for ROs in the 39mm and 41mm are still tight. But I feel if you put your name on the list for a Code or ROO or ladies piece they should come quickly.

I was just in Japan and the interest is still very high there.

The market in China and Hong Kong is the ones I would like to find out more about with the new political shunning of displays of wealth

I was offered a Code as a walk-in in Europe, but nothing at all in the Asia.
