Anyone daily a 6263? Feedback?

In another misc thread, a member mentioned they owned a 6263 and wouldn't daily wear it as the watch felt frail and not sturdy due to the hollow links. Curios if other members feel the same way? I am on the hunt for a 6263 and wish to use it often for work with a suit but want to make sure it is a watch that can be worn without worry. Any insight and thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I am having a very difficult time finding one local to try on in LA.

You could try Tropical watch not quite LA but not a million miles away. They might be a little thin on the ground and your search might take you further afield

I have a 6.3 mil 6263 with 78350/571 bracelet/end link combo and feel the watch is plenty sturdy on that bracelet.
I do find it more sturdy than the earlier 7205 or 7835 bracelets since they have folded links and don’t have quite as solid of a feeling.
Maybe the lighter feeling of the 4 digit hollow bracelet is all the other person was referring to.
I don’t wear mine daily or even regularly, but have no problem wearing it without concerns of fragility.
As for the watch head itself, I feel it is no less suitable for regular wear than any other vintage or neo-vintage watch I’ve owned.
The 78350 bracelet, or leather strap, is probably the best of all worlds for daily wear on a 4 digit Daytona.

Perfectly robust on any of the bracelets as are say 1016.

Other observations.

Earlier 37mm are non oyster and have non screw down pusher so need to be bit careful in water..... but 37.5mm are oyster case with screw down pushers and less of an issue.

Tbh the only issue I have when wearing one of my early Daytonas is I often forget to wind them up a tad every day, and they thus stop unceremoniously !! But that's down to me.....

Well my father wore his 6263 daily for over 10 years before he passed away at a young age of 55.Myself own it now and gets quite a bit of wrist time now 40 odd years old still looks good and bracelet very very little wear. And its one watch I would never sell at any price, as every time I wear it it reminds me of my father and how proud he was of his Rolex watch.

Wannabuyawatch has a 6265 listed, which should be similar enough to give you a sense, if you are just looking for one to handle. There are many other dealers that you can contact.

The perception that folded link bracelets are fragile is silly, IMO. People have just become accustomed to the overbuilt bracelets that manufacturers use these days to create a sense of solidity. Obviously, folded bracelets were used without problems for many decades, and there was never an epidemic of watches falling off of people's wrists.

Of course, if you simply don't like the folded bracelets, you can always install a more modern one. The bracelet is not an integral part of the watch. Some people might be more concerned about wearing a 6263 daily because of the value making them a target, and the message they are sending by wearing a flashy and recognizable watch worth $75k.

I have a 5.5 serial which puts it around 1978. No issues with daily wear. I probably wear it a week at a time in rotation with other watches. It’s a stunner.

Non-issue. A 6263 is a great daily as long as it’s serviced properly and the bracelet is in good shape. I wear mine often.

Been reading and researching your comments above, is there any difference on the 78350 bracelet between the 571 endlinks and the 557? Assuming both fit a 6263, apologies for the novice question, still trying to get my feet wet in the vintage world.

Peter great story about your dad. I’m sorry he passed away so young. What was his story that he wore a 6263 daily?

The catalog examples show both end links available on the 78350 bracelet.
It’s rather common the 571 would have come with Daytona and 557 would have come with Air-Kings.
But I haven’t seen anything outside the below RPR link showing the 6263/6265 Daytona being sold exclusively with 571 ends.
BTW, Wanna Buy A Watch on Melrose has both 6263 and 6265 that can be viewed by appointment if you just want to see how they feel to you…

Thanks! I’ve had many vintage/modern watches that have come and gone in four decades of doing this. My 6263 is the one absolute keeper.

I’d urge anyone in a position to acquire a good example to do so, especially nowadays in this softer market. They’re magical.

An absolutely magical watch indeed!

I have removed my original 1978 bracelet and added a slightly tougher newer bracelet for daily use. But either way, you will be fine!

You'll dig Wanna Buy a Watch, they have a great selection of vintage Rolex and others. Very nice people too. I wear my dad's GMT master on a 50-year old oval link bracelet. The bracelets are made to last. People who purchased Rolex in the day purchased because of quality, and they were built to last. Just because there is newer technology available does not change the equation.

No problem; unfortunately I don’t see the 6263 now on the wanna buy a watch site, but the 6265 is still there.
Also Craft and Tailored downtown has a few vintage daytonas on their website and they do appointment viewing as well.
I’d suggest you thoroughly vet whatever vintage daytona you are seriously considering for obvious reasons.

I use my 6263 as a dresswatch as I have only sports watches in my collection.#
But I never use the chrono function anymore, as it broke 2 times in my 10 years of ownership...

I’suggest also checking out Eric Wind’s Wind Vintage. I recently picked up a Submariner 14060 from 1997 and couldn’t be happier. Excellent customer service.

I have both a 6265 and 6263 (and a 6239) and while I don't wear them daily, I don't really think about them falling apart when I wear them?

I am looking at buying an 18K 6263 right now.

Love this comment Padi! Let me qualify that. Not the part about your father passing away at such a young age. My condolences about that. Got my watch from my dad too and will never sell unless I experience financial instability. My dad., who is still alive, thankfully, was like, "You still have that watch?". Yes, I do dad?… Although, that being said, he would want me to sell it if my family was in need. After all, it is only a watch, in the end… It will be going to my son Jack, assuming financial instability does not materialize…
