What's wrong with me?

I have recently purchased my first Rolex, a Steel Submariner date after months of searching the internet and longing for it. I even sold my Breitling Aerospace in preparation for the big event reasoning that I could only wear one watch at a time.
Now within weeks of if being on my wrist I am poring over images of the Daytona, and fretting over whether I want white or black, and fretting even more about the even longer waiting list. (5 years!).
The sub date was going to be the watch I could wear 24/7 and to any event, no need to buy another watch ever again, and yet......SS Daytona....
What's wrong with me?

The cure is to try on a white gold meterorite daytona, then a platinum ice blue day date.

Then you'll find a $1000 vintage manual wind Rolex and finally be happy.

You are not alone.
We all have the same probem... one way or another...
Daytona is the "Grail" for most... its the watch that everyone will want once they have a Rolex. Good luck to you.
I say get the Sub first wear it for a bit... and put yourself on the waitinglist.
Sell the Sub once you get called by your AD...

Well, I considered giving you 'practical' advice, but I can't!

The Daytona is AWESOME! I just got one 3 weeks ago and LOVE it! I also have a Sub and LOVE it too! A great pair.

If the waiting list in the UK is indeed 5 years (bet you could find one sooner), then get your name on that list now! Enjoy your Sub in the meantime.....one day you'll have your Daytona too!

Daytona is a great watch, yet very expensive, but will you really use all the features of the daytona? do you use a chronometer or tachymeter in a timepiece? this watch is expensive because of this features, the Sub date has something to measure time and is the bezel and it has a Date, the daytona does not have a date... im telling you this so you dont do something you will regret later... so just get yourself on the list and wait peacefully

so think about it....

remember: your cost for a daytona in the uk = airfare + hotel + daytona in the US (no waiting list at non-ad)

there are more daytonas then customers these these in NYC - thats for sure!

I've already put myself on the waiting list for the Daytona!
Then I'm going to put the 16610 up for sale when I get the call from the AD...or am I?
Is that going to be it? I hope so...but...but

Lusting after more Rolexes after buying your first is completely normal behavior. Go with it.

A marketing ploy. If they flood the market, they become common and therefore don't seem exclusive enough, people wouldn't want them. Similar to what Rolex did in the 70's when quartz movements were taking over and Swiss companies were struggling to compete with the Japanese, Rolex put prices up and made them more exclusive and desirable.
I couldn't believe it when I came to France and the ad's had Subs and the LV's in stock. Where I was from in the UK there were waiting lists for Subs.

No is not !! Daytona is for posers, stay with your Submariner. There is no Rolex grail, unless is the one you already own.

For now, sure.

Wear the Sub for five years and when the Daytona comes in you can re-evaluate. By then you'll have come to your senses. You will have realized that the SS Daytona dial is boring compared to the dials available on the WG Daytona.

I don't know,I'm sorry,I really don't mean that,it's just that I hate the Daytona, really. While all other models have grown on me since I was a kid the Daytona remained the black sheep. There's no vintage,no Newman,no nothing,it's just a blingy piece of metal full of useless functions to me.

Welcome to TRF, but being here is only gonna make it harder for you! Seriously, though, welcome to the madness. There is NO cure so just enjoy the thrill of the chase. It won't be the last time. As for the Daytona being the grail watch, if it is for you, then that's all that matters!

You're right acually. I've just passed it luckily....It's been a year full of Seadwellers, 2 LV's ....a lot of meaningless flippings. I've finally found peace with a Sub no date.
