Safest way to buy online
I've been reading a LOT about buying online but need the forum's consensus on the best way a buyer can protect themselves from buying a bad watch. Escrow seems like the best option. Amex seems to have some sort of buyer's protection as does paypal. E bay's buyer protection seems real too.
Other say to "buy the seller", which I understand, but even a trusted seller is as trusted as others in the forum. |

TKEPilot...
I understand your trepidation...but like what the others have said...buy the seller and they have recommended some good sellers here at TRF that would really save you some money and are well trusted... if you surf the various watch forums..you will see that these sellers have done TONS of deals...(DavidSW, LawrenceB,tempoking, bodybump,Mosco, etc.)...they are not going to ruin their business on one deal... online escrows are rarely used... good luck...if you hang out on these forums enough..you will see who can be trusted...

Some sites that are legit are Swiss Luxury, Stein Diamonds, Alan Furman and Bernard Watch. A lot of ppl here have bought from these sites and can vouch for them.

Buy the seller from TRF .... Even on TRF, you have to do your homework and not let your guard down..... but there are plenty of sellers on TRF that are awesome.....

Do your homework and be careful.
If you buy from an unknown seller, worst case is you will get a stolen or a fake watch. My first Rolex ended up being a franken watch with all rolex parts, got my money back eventually but was a stressful experience. Pay the premium of going with a well known seller. Might not be a screaming deal but will be a good deal. There are lots of scams out there, so before you part with thousands of $s just be careful. Oh and just because they have a photo does not always mean they have the watch. Also afterwards take it to a AD to open it and make sure it is legit just for your own peace of mind so you will know. Good luck. |

If you can't cross that 'trust' threshhold, the premium of an AD gives you piece of mind.
Risk in everything. I'm guessing most Rolex owners are a little into risk.

My first Rolex was from the local AD at MSRP and Tax. At that time I was not aware of the deals or discounts always thoguht these premium places never offer discount. I bought a second one also form my borhte in law from the same place becasue he lives in UK and comparing to what was offered at the ADs there he thought my AD in NY was a great deal. My second Rolex was from DavidSW here I bought his reputation here. I took it to the AD got it properly appraised in writing paying $50.00 and I am a happy customer. Interesting when I was talking to my AD about the discount I was getting she offered a 25-30% disocunt depending on the particular piece. It all depends on your comfort level. So see how much you are willing to the Seeler with a lot of good reviews here on the forum is upto you. I did it twice in this month and happy woth the results. I would say I also gained tow froiend not only two great deals.
