Tudor Rolex Submariner
Can anyone help.
I purchased a Tudor Rolex in 1978 I still have/had the original book and purchase docket, this watch has only ever been out of my possession on 2 occasions, once for a new band it was sent to Melbourne, and once to either Brisbane or Sydney for a check up and a new lens. I recently sold it on ebay to a chap in the USA and he has stopped my paypal claiming the paper work does not correspond with the case number, I did not know about any numbers or where they were untill he told me of the differences. The case number is 931376 and the number on the paper work is 122102/9411/0 any suggestion as to what may have happed. at this point in time he still has the watch and original box and paper work. I have told him I will give him his money back but I will need to check the watch before I release any of my money. not sure how to do this as the post wont register watches for over 250 euro simmo |

The 9411/0 is the model reference number of your watch so that is correct. The other number should match the number on the watch. Did you inspect the numbers on your watch before sending it to the buyer? What numbers appear on your service documents? Check those if you didn't send them with the watch and contact Rolex Service Center to double check your numbers.
Also make sure that this buyer is not trying to just pull your arm claiming that the numbers don't match.

This sounds odd, I would get him to just return the watch if you can. Did you purchase it brand new or second hand back in 1978?. The buyer could be trying to pull a fast one or something was not quite right when you originally purchased it in 78, either way, play it by the Paypal book and only communicate with the buyer through Ebay messages or Paypal, that way there is always a legitimate record of who said what and it cant be altered. Also, get it sent back by say FedEx, just so that you can be sure it was collected from him and not "lost" in the postal system after he posted it.(ie never posted) You might have to pay for this, but with a valuable watch it is worth doing, what feedback does the buyer have. If the buyer is in the US why are we talking insurance in Euros ?

Thank you to those that replied, Yes bought it new, I have never checked any numbers and in fact through ignorance I never knew there were any and how important they would be at a later date. when the buyer bought the watch on ebay it only was on there 2hr &13min before it sold, he expressly wanted me to post fedx but i could get no insurance above $1000.00 us so we elected to go AAe, Guess what it got lost and took 1 month to get to buyer (Texas). We later found out AAE agent should not have insured for $3500.00! au
It looks like I have to make sure that the $3500 is in paypal before he sends the watch back, this is where I could get ripped off if he is not a responsible person. |
