Plus Rik can source Rolex parts and install them for me (i.e. 114060 hands on a 14060, etc...)

The RSC ain't doing that. I get the value service paperwork brings but I'd wager some of us are in it for the fun and love of the watches vs margin/profit.
Will decide between an independent who is specialised in Rolex repairs using genuine parts or RSC (in swiss)...Will choose one of them. Simple problem complicated and expensive solution. Thats just life.

Previous threads on this forum with lots of positive feedback about Rikki, as well as horror (real) stories at some RSCs in the US give idea...
(I can share the link if someone will attack me with a message telling me that I am lying).

In overall not all independents are perfect and not all RSCs are bad. I will research get references of an independent and do my best. I am not going to take my watch to someone who has no idea what to do with Rolexes which is like going to a dentist for a heart operation.

16 posts : you know you have to start from somehwhere. I also posted at New Comers section. So what?

Wants advise but doesn’t take it : I did not ask for an advise. I asked about part numbers and compatibility. So in case of going to an independent and getting a quote I would have ideas about the genuine parts and prices.

It is not my mistake if ONLY some people do not know anything about answer of my question, do not even read my message and keep pushing me to go to any RSC, which does not help as we all know that all RSCs do not have same price and quality of service.

If you read all thread carefully there are some people who really answered my questions. They also shared their experiences without offending me. And I thank them again !

Troll mode engaged : Why is that ?

You own a ROLEX watch, and you’re risking it to a “backyard mechanic”.... please explain why you “can’t afford the extra hundreds” for RSC to receive a warranty and know it’s done with brand new Genuine parts, but you will risk a 8.5k watch with someone else who may or may not fix it accordingly, and will not give you a factory Rolex guarantee afterwards?

Seems your priorities are not in order. It’s like buying a Ferrari and sending it to Midas for an oil change. Why but a Rolex but can’t afford to have Rolex service it?...

Backyard mechanic washing all movement parts with dish soap, then oiling them with WD40 and shining the watch with car wax will be the place to go:)

Don't even bother with him, one of his posts even got removed in this thread because he was being pretty offensive.

You asked for advice and it is your own right to do whatever you like.
Keep us posted on the service

Yes my post got removed and that’s fine, I’m entitled to my own opinions. Everyone else has said the same along the lines. I simply stated that it didn’t make sense to pay that sort of money for a watch and then not have the funds to have it properly serviced.

You as it says on your profile on a “watchmaker” you should clearly understand that. I gave info and answered questions in the start of the thread. Others included as well as myself stated the same, but hey end of the day it’s your watch and get it serviced as you wish.

Good luck hopefully all turns out well.

I agree and do recommend RSC. But in the end he wants to go to a good independent, which IMO is just as good.

Calling people named because they do not follow your advice is where you lost me

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the concept of how a Rolex sub is not expensive for the OP, but the cost of service at RSC is

Generally, you'll service your Rolex once every 7-1o years which makes the RSC service fee a very agreeable offer.

It’s now 7 years old and has developed a problem.
Time for a full service IMO

After 7 years your watch is due for a service anyway. Doesn't make sense to be penny wise and pound foolish. You can pay a couple hundred extra bucks now and prevent another failure that might occur within the next couple of years. Ultimately it probably saves you money on a second fix just to send to the RSC.

This hurts my head.

I wonder if random service centers would even take customer
owned parts.

Overhaul has been made by an independent and so far so good since 3 days. The problem was the broken mainspring which was replaced with the genuine Rolex one. The condition of the watch is as new as i really wore very rarely since 8 years, so no other parts need to be replaced. So happy so far, and I feel much more comfortable that dropping the watch to the RSC after knowing lots of friends bad experiences with RSCs here. total cost $500. RSC quote was $900 for overhaul which would not even include the mainspring.

Seems to me you need to pay to play. 2012 Rolex breaks..

I’m too tight/poor to pay for fix. Where’s my tiny violin...?

You need a premium wallet to run a premium car/house/car/mistress/ holiday etc my
Friend.

Fixing these watches is a skill not many have so it costs top dollar.

So did a watch maker confirm it’s just the main spring, or is this all speculation at this point?
