Hold onto your steel sub. The steel subc date is amazing. Buy a non 3186 polar explorer II. Great watch. I have one and a 16710 (just added).

I really like the 40mm Polar, and I own a 116610LN, and I would never make that trade unless I got fair money back. No way would it be 1 for 1. Even with money back, it would be difficult as I think the 116610LN is the far superior watch.

I like the polar 5digit way more than the sub 6digit, but it seems you should get some money on top. Although in a trade with a dealer (rather than a private party) you typically pay both the markup of the watch you are buying and the markup of the watch you are selling.

For one reason or another the sub isn’t working for you so sell it. Contrary to what some posters here think, there’s nothing wrong in that - it’s only a watch.

Get the watch you want. Personally I wouldn’t do that specific trade because it doesn’t sound right financially. I’d sell the sub privately then go after the best 16570 you can get.

I have a polar 16570 with the 3186 movement and it’s great. The dial pops like no other. It’s light and extremely comfortable on my 6.75” wrist.

two or three years ago, it was a decent value proposition but today it is absolutely not worth what you are willing to give up. that dealer is trying to skin you alive three times over by overvaluing his piece, undervaluing yours to resell it at a much higher markup later since a modern steel sports rolex is so easy to move. just sell your sub yourself if you don't wear it anymore and look for a better deal.

If you bought the Sub new from an AD, I would never trade it for anything on Ebay or any other non-AD source.

Valuing your watch at £7,950 sounds reasonable, but I think the 16750 in question is too expensive.

If you don’t like or wear the Sub for some reason and want/have to move it to buy another reference, well, then do what you have to do. That said, I think the trade proposed to you is absolutely awful, for all the reasons discussed above. As one (or several) of the posters said above, you would be getting absolutely creamed on BOTH sides of the deal. You would undoubtedly do better to sell your Sub privately (e.g. on TRF), and then negotiate the price for the 16570 with cash in hand (and probably with a person with a more reasonable starting price for their watch).

I’d say the seller is assigning too much value to the 3186 movement.
