Yes the Sub is very hard to get as are all of the steel Rolexes sports models. Some are harder to get than others. Search the Forum and you will see there are hundreds of posts about the Rolex shortage.

I bought an AP RO a few years ago for less than MSRP. Didn't really pay attention to prices for years and I was shocked to see the current prices on the grey market.

I posed the the question about the rarity of the RO on the AP Forum and got a quick education from some posters. Funny thing is all along I was following the Rolex shortage and was unaware the same thing was happening with AP and Pateks.

We need to realise that not everyone who post a question reads the Forum every day or follows the ask price on Chrono24 daily.
I was Rolex centric then decided to hunt down a PP about a year or two ago, that didn't end well, I then googled my PP's and was shocked at the values. It certainly can get away from you quickly. I mean even some Cartier sell at a premium now.

I will say it again, it is madness purely madness.

I understand this isn't the norm, but I stopped by an AD over Christmas, let them know I was interested in a new 41mm sub date, and got the call last week. No purchase history.

Don't expect the same result, but it can happen.

Three weeks ago I walked into my AD with no history. Left with a TT Sub. They even took my check. Strange things happen.

The Submariner line isn't in such demand as the GMT, Daytona, SkyD or even the OP41.

Yes they're tough to get. You have two options.

1. Buy grey Market
2. Get acquainted with AD, buy a lower end watch, then get on the list for submariner 6-12 months

Hope that helps
A simple search would have given him the answer

I am in the UK and was told by an AD that the Sub non date has a 2 year plus waiting list. The 126613LB however is easy to obtain over here.

I was dammed lucky to pick one up after a 3 week wait then, its a stunning watch and well worth the wait, keep knocking on doors OP, people are getting them without purchase history at the AD - its a rare occurrence but it does happen.

You must have a cracking AD. can I ask what part of the UK are they based as maybe worth a call after lockdown.

Mappin and Webb, Bluewater Shopping Centre, nothing but great service from them, they have looked after me really well.

This is true in my case

3 months after email inquiry I had one from Atlanta, Georgia AD. Just my experience. However, doesn't seem like a common one these days.

I don't have much of a purchase history with my AD, but I have a pretty good friendship with the staff. I requested a Sub date (black dial) last July, and am still waiting. I follow up every few weeks, and am told they will get me one eventually
